Thats not the first time a twister has came close is it?  I think I would consider a safer location.  But then again if you are determined then do the most to make it withstand.

MountainDon

Close one, glad you are alright.

61 up in the mountains right now. A couple hours ago it was 57 when we left. Wonderful sunshine too; it hit over 1000 watts/square meter for 2+ hours (noonish to after 2 PM); over 900 for 4+ hours.  :)

The onlt snow left is on north facing slopes here and there and in heavily wooded areas. 8500 + elevations.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

The past couple of years have seen more tornados in California.

I have seen a couple but none this close up.  I wasn't very big and it did not do exceptional damage.

The last one was about 5 miles away, and that was close enough for me.

About the same here Peter.  It is suppose to turn colder by Wednesday.  Maybe it is spring time coming back for awhile.  I am about ready to move back outside and work.  Leave the inside for rainy days.

Cloudy and warm here in the Big Easy. Still signs of Katrina here. What a mess.

Flying home (Illinois) tomorrow.

Our forecast is mid 60's for the next week - might get up to 70-72.  Last week when I was at Stanford Univ hosp. it got up to 96 degrees - the Bay area is usually pretty cool - when I left, it was in the 50's...  go figure.

We got woken up early this morning by a big storm. We've had heavy rain and flooding for the past few hours and it's still pouring. The power was out for a while and we had water comming in under the back door. No fun trying to clean up and build a dam before coffee in the dark.

Redoverfarm

Scott anything before Coffee is not acceptable.

gandalfthegrey

Cloudy and muggy.  I am watching the wind forcast just in case we have a replay of last week. :o

River nearby Scott?  Being on the mountain it is hard to imagine how that much water can come up to the door.

What a mess, Scott!

We've had rain since yesterday - has poured down pretty good, in fact!

What a mess. That's the most rain I've ever seen in one day. After I made that post we got hit again and it took out the phone and internet. Just got it back this morning. We got hit a third time around 3 in the afternoon. It was raining so hard my driveway turned into a river. My best friend lost his road completly. My son had to help mom build a damn out of feed sacks to keep the water out of her house. I had made a dam out of boards which kept the water out of the house mostly. The lake went from normal to flood stage in less than 4 hours.  Deer run survived just fine.

High water is no fun Scott.  My in-laws have been flooded 4-5 times in the last 20 years.  Each time it was 5-6 feet in the house.  But at their age they don't want to relocate.  The Corp of Eng has been studing flood walls and levees for about 1/2 century now in town near the Greenbrier River. Finally they have got the ball on the roll and are just waiting for Congress to allocate the remainder of the money.

The subsequent floods, 1996 & 1997 were just about as bad as the 85 flood . 96 was freezing temps which made a completely different mess.  When you build a town between the mountains along a river then I guess you can't expect anything less.

Our lake is a flood control project John. That doesn't help much when the rain is so heavy that it floods the yard before it can get to the lake. Also seems the water plant was knocked out by the flood. We have no water now. Looks like a replay of last spring when the water was out for a week.

Scott you must be having a time of it.  There was a singer "Dennis Jerrigan" (from OK)  who was suppose to sing at our church this morning and he couldn't catch the flight from OK on time because of the weather.  He is now on a later flight to show up tonight.

currently 86 F  on way to upper 90 F  Santa Barbara is burning down still.  Early fire season.

considerations

Low 40's High 30's at night, upper 50's during the day.  Last weekend we had at least 2 inches of rain.  Things are growing like crazy. Buckwheat is up, apples and pears are blooming.  Slugs just hatched (whoopee).  Spring has arrived, better late than never.

Redoverfarm

CF things are finally turning green here as well.  At least the cows now have some thing other than brown to eat.  Really needed to fertilize my fields but at $800 a ton they will just have to eat left over recession grass.

The temps at night over the last couple days have been 50-55F with a high of about 60 -65 at daytime.  The trees are about half out with the hardwoods a little later. I think we have had about one afternoon break in the rain in the last 7-10 days.  I'm tired of the rain but it's good for everything so I can't complain too much.  Finally got the yard mowed (6-8") in that window of oppurtunity. Had to rake alot so the cows got a little extra treat.   They devired the new cut grass.

Green here and hot, 92 today, steaming because everything is wet from a weeks storms and stormy this evening.

Peter I was wondering if you got any of the wicked weather that hit the Chesapeake area the other night?

Redoverfarm

The weather took a U turn the last couple of nights.  The temperature last night and the one before were 28-30F.  Heavy frost both mornings.  I was luck in that I went to a greenhouse and bought some plants for the decorative porch boxes Sunday.  There was a billboard at one of the drug stores that said there was a freeze warning for those two nights so rather than take a chance I put them in the garage to plant a little later.  Good thing I did.  I just feel for those who put plants in the garden and didn't cover them.

gandalfthegrey

Woke up to 57 degrees and thunder.  A few sprinkles and it is now raining.   I heard that the lightning strikes has set about 6 different fires.

So much for the dry southern California desert.

It's 56 degrees outside right now - at almost 1pm on June 5 - pretty much unheard of for this time of year - usually it is at least in high 80's to over 100 degrees.  We've also had another thunderstorm early this am that lasted around 3 hrs - another anomaly for this time of year - more thunderstorms expected this afternoon & night...  hmmmm - lots of weather modification going on  :-\  I like the rain but I don't like how they produce it...  not normal at all...

check out the new cloud formations - they even want to give them a new name!   http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/gallery/2009/jun/01/2?picture=348217732
