Glenn, they've been spraying here in the past week  or two more than I've ever seen it before.   I mean tons.

It's cold here.

glenn kangiser

Here also before you got the last storms.  Big time.  Much of it was done well over the Sierras like they were sending it your way.

Thanks for letting me know that you are looking - even though you know I am crazy --- you can see them. rofl

The weather reporter that was reporting them posted a disclaimer a while back as if he had been intimidated but has moved his website and is once again reporting.  Looks like you got a good heavy dose.

Ice storm today. No fun. Looks like it's going to get very nasty.

Redoverfarm

Scott it looks as if we will be catching your storm on Tued & Wed.  2-4" of snow and freezing rain.

southernsis

Ice storm hit today, more tonight and tomorrow. It is already nasty and dangerous out. We are all expecting the power to go out. Good thing we have lots of firewood and an old propane cooking range.
Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon.

glenn kangiser

Your ice was our rain - Suns out - the birds are singing - spring peepers are peepering... and it froze a bit last night 28 tonight - sun for a week - calling for 60f

Well, we are having to stay indoors, the ice storm hit yesterday and is still going strong. Haven't lost power yet, went out a few time, but came back on. Just lost a large limb on one of my oldest dogwood trees. I am very glad that all of the pines near the house were taken down last year. [chainsaw] The cedars are bowing quite a bit, but they don't seem to break like the pines.
The weather is expected to continue till about noon tomorrow.
I think I will make a pot of ham and bean soup today. Have to go out an feed the birds. Have to keep them happy. There are about 20 cardinals out by the feeders, plus chickadees, and others. It is a zoo out there.
Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon.

Sleeting here. All the trees have a crust of ice. Messy. We still have power but our water and internet was out for a while. It's back on now.

considerations

Got a couple inches of snow last night. About 28 Degrees.  Today it rained and the snow me melted.  Now its just blowing out there and I've heard we may get a few more inches of snow tonight.

Night before last it got down to 18.  I like the sound of snow that falls when it is really cold, it squeaks under my boots.

Wet snow doesn't and it's harder to walk in.

Even the really shy birds are coming to the feeders.

glenn kangiser

About 60 degress in the day 41 at night for the next week.

Sassy was a bit cold so I stoked up the Round Oak wood stove -- currently 80.4 in the Underground Command Center.... d*

Go Figure.  This morning it was 15F and this afternoon it went to 55F.  I even broke down and washed the salt off of DW car.  But Tuesday & Wednesdays forecast says it will turn nasty again and do something.

I guess they were off by about a day or so.  It started snowing at 2PM and has been steady since then,  So far it has averaged at least an inch and hour.  3" and counting.  I hope this is part of what we are suppose to get tomarrow afternoon.  If not this could be the biggest snow of this year.

considerations

I think I'm not the only one who could say this has been an unusual winter.  :-\

MountainDon

8th warmest January in over 100 years here in NM.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Redoverfarm

Yes very unusual.  But the last couple have been also.  Normally we would get 100"+ for the winter.  I don't think we have had 100" in the combination of the last couple years.  Global Warming? ;D

glenn kangiser

Government weather tampering.

None today as shown -the 4th we're in for it - I would like to see if he's correct.

This is not exactly how I wanted to awake this morning.  Shortly after 6AM a knock at the door summoned help with an accident near the house.  The driver was still inside the vehicle.  To make matters worse it was a T&T with a full load of gasoline that had overturned.  By the time I had made it to the scene most of the fire personel were there and the ambulance had just left with the driver enroute to the hospital.  Due to the explosive nature of the cargo which was already seeping into the ground the HAZ-MAT was called.  Given the ruralness of the area and the response time the road was shut down.  I would say we will be lucky to resume regular trafic by late in the night.  Here are a few pictures.

Here are a few pictures of the road near the site

Never a dull moment.  I would say that the property assessment on this house just went down.  Yes they do have a water well. In fact I do too.  I pray that it will not find it's way to an underground stream and make it way to my house.  Fortuneately the house is empty as the lady had died a couple years ago.

Redoverfarm

This is going to be an all day affair.  HAZ-MAT 's response time is 3 hours from 9AM.  So that means they will be working way into the night before this major north-south route is opened back up. I am sure that Snowhoe Resort will feel the affects of thi.   Problem with living in the mountains is there are rarely any alternative routes without a several hour drive.  Closest alternative would be 1-1/2 detour to reach town of about 12 miles away.  Well the wife gets a snow day off work.  I am going to try to plow to the cabin.  Forecast is another (depending who you listen to 4-6" or 6-8" more this afternoon and tonight.

fishing_guy

Just got back form a weekend camping in the snow...  We were last up the beginning of December.

Checking our electronic thermometer, sometime in that stretch we hit a low of -42.9 F.

This guy didn't seem to mind much:

A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work any day, but building something with your own hands beats anything.

Redoverfarm

I guess you have to have that extra layer of fat to survive.  BTW after 2 hrs of plowing the road is open to the cabin.  Really took a chance in using the tractor as the turns were nothing but Ice.  After the second one I kicked the boy off the 4 wheeler and plowed the remaining with it.  Also the road is still closed.  I told you so.  Talked to a Department of Highways truck driver stuck on my end.  He had to drive 1-1/2 hours out of his way to plow and cinder 5 miles below the house to the county line.

Mo

Closest alternative would be 1-1/2 detour to reach town of about 12 miles away.

I use to say all roads lead to Greenbank, when i was driving from White Sulphur, to bad each are at least 1 hour from each other on a clear day.

I don't want to hijack this but, the house is in the picture with the wreck has 3-4" logs? standing and it has always looked so nice. We had thought about doing it but I couldn't for the life of me figure where I could get all of those stick like trees.

Hope the road opens soon and no problem with the leaks.

Redoverfarm

Mo I think it may be cleared up.  I called at 6A and they said they opened it at 4AM.  Not real sure whether they got the truck and trailer out or whether they just removed the fuel.  Wife will check on her way to work.

And yes it is a verticle log houe.  I am sure you had passed it many times.

As far as the detour.  Most Snowshoe bound would go to Mt. Grove and hit 600 past the dam and Rt 84 to Frost then to Cass and over the CCC road.

Hope you faired well with the recent storms.

ScottA

Chilly morning here 12f but the sun is out. That's a good sign.  :)

He was dead on the money on his forecast --- we were covered with chemtrails 100% by this afternoon - they were putting up so many it interfered with my solar tracker at 7:30 AM.
