Last year I burned a little over 300 gallons of fuel oil---cabin is used almost every weekend with heat turned down to 54 when gone. At current prices it will average $50/month this year. Electricity runs about $15/month. Cabin is 1 1/2 story of 850 sq ft heated area with lots of big windows. Used 100lbs of propane for cooking & water heating over the year at cost of $82.  Have R-60 roof and R-21 walls and floor insulation---cabin not yet skirted---should help out a little when I get that completed.

That's pretty good!  Especially since you said you're not finished & in those cold temps...

-5 this morning.  At noon it is about 5 above now.  Out where our cabin is this morning was minus 28 and has now warmed up to -21 at noon.  It is nice to get that ice thickness up on the lakes for safety.

Terrible! Raining here at home. 44 degrees.

32 at the cabin, no recorded rainfall.
Tonight up there the weather guy says:  Snow. Low around 19. Southeast wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Abbynrml

Its snowing in Houston TX. And its even sticking.
This doesnt happen very often here.

Is this the global warming I was warned of???

Squirl

Yeah, it screwed up a subpoena being served for me.

Redoverfarm

Well I guess it has started.  Actually at about 6AM.  So far it has been snowing about 1" per hour.  Temp 34F.  Here is a view from the front door.

Jens

we got between an inch and half inch here in Knoxville TN this morning.  Was very nice.  All gone now though.
just spent a few days building a website, and didn't know that it could be so physically taxing to sit and do nothing all day!

muldoon

Like abbynrml says above it was snowing in Houston yesterday,  I left town at noon headed for muldoon in the snow.  Very cold last night, the orange crush thermometer said 18 when I saw it at 5:30 this morning. I staid mostly warm and ok, did put a nice buck in the cooler so you gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

considerations

High 30's during the day, low 20's at night. The horse troughs are freezing up and the grass has been frozen for 3 days.   The daylight hours are getting pretty short this time of year, so there's no real time for the sun to thaw things.

It snowed here in Round Rock Texas on Friday. I sneezed and missed it.  :(

First snow (at this elevation) of the year is supposed to hit tonight.  I have enough wood in for the winter I think.  We will see... [waiting]

3:00AM .... Why am I laying here awake... hmm

Got up - got dressed-  did the deed.... went back to bed.......[waiting]

On the cold side here. I need to get some heat in my office. Here I am sitting at my desk with an electric heater blowing on me and also wrapped up in an electric blanket throw. Need to get one of those 2 burner propane heaters.
We are waiting to get the first snow this year. Our pup has never seen snow and she is going to go nuts. Hope we don't get any freezing rain. After the disaster last year, the surviving trees can't take it.
Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon.

Gray and wet oustide, here in Round Rock Texas. It's just like Seattle!

I think it's around 47. Feels odd. No mountains, no snow in the mountains. No smell of woodstoves or mildew.

Redoverfarm

Homesick Stink?  Here it was 16F this morning and rose to nearly 33F now.  Freezing rain, snow or sleet by morning and through Thursday from the west.  Hope you keep it in the West.

On a related note I drove to the Cabin on the 4-Wheeler today to clean up what I had plowed on Saturday.  The temp in the cabin was the same as it was outside when I got there around noon 33F.  I hadn't had any heat in there since Thursday.

They're calling for 3 degrees in the southwest part of Washington state tonight, and below zero over on the east side of the Cascades... [cool]    ....And people wonder why I like to spend time in Tucson this time of year!

It is ~4:30 at my mountain retreat. It's been bright and sunny all day, though the sun is in the process of just finished setting behind the ridge to the west, and we're sitting pretty at a balmy -10. d*

MountainDon
