Speaking of birthdays and guns

So I had just celebrated my 64th birthday and got something from my granddaughter that I didn't have as a kid (see thread -We were so poor that....)

A couple of days later while checking out the changes in the Super Wally World near my farm, I verified that they were no longer selling firearms; a little strange since my county is known for its hunting.

Anyway I wanted to see if they were still selling ammo (which they are) and check on stock and prices. Well while in the sporting goods department, a red and yellow box caught my eye.

Another example of something that I didn't have as a kid; only this time an anniversary edition.

The box is stapled shut, and I may not even open it. $:-\$

Dang-it NM, that actually makes sense. Now I'll have to shell out another $35 or find a non-anniversary model.

Careful with that, Poppy. I shot my brother with one of those and the BB stuck in his knuckle.

It was fair though. I warned him I would shoot if he didn't stop teasing my dog.

I didn't force him to tease my dog again... he did it of his own orneryness.... then like a little baby he went screaming to mama....

In fairness I held my fire as I indicated I would until the next time he did it.... about 2 seconds....

Why am I always the one to get in trouble...

Good story Glenn.

I didn't have to shoot my brother, he shot himself (in the hand). Or at least that's the way I remember it.

NM suggested that I buy another rifle, so I did. Just for fun here are the 2 receipts from 2 different WW's. One is near my farm in the country, the other is near my condo and in front of a housing development where the cheapest house runs $1 million.

Which store has the cheaper price?

Also note which one has the higher sales tax rate.

Poppy I can understand the basic price but the sales tax should be the same if it is in the same state. At least our is.

It wasn't totally on purpose, Poppy. It's just that I was a better shot off the hip than I intended to be.

Like the time I stuck the fork in his leg. He threw it at me first.

It's not my fault that I was better at mumbletypeg than he was.

Pricing and tax...

Pricing. Sometimes the higher price may be in the more affluent area. However a number of years ago I saw a survey of grocery stores. That one showed lower prices in the affluent area. The reasoning behind that was that the more affluent could more easily travel further to a place with cheaper prices, if they wanted to, and the the poor could not. So the poor paid more.

Taxes. The state rate will be the same, but then the local county, town or city can also assess their own tax. At least that's how NM is. I pay a fraction of a cent more tax locally but it's not worth spending more money to drive 7 miles away to save the small amount. Plus at least my tax money then gets wasted locally instead of in the other city across the river.

John, the reason I posted those receipts was to again remind myself that the "high rent" WW has lower prices.

I understand free market pricing, but the WW in the country which has lower overhead and probably lower labor costs also, has higher prices.

On the sales tax rates; the state has one base rate and counties are free to pile on more, so each county can be different. And again, the sad thing is that the poor county has the higher rate.

The same thing is true of gasoline and building supplies; higher prices in the country. Poor people can't catch a break.

Glenn, it appears that we both have some good brother stories. My brother thought that he could dodge rocks thrown by me, his younger left handed brother. A trip to the doctor (we didn't have a hospital in those days) and a face full of bandages proved him wrong.

Well, Poppy, my little brother was trying to figure out where the yellow rain was coming from when my cousin and I called him over to see what we were doing way up in the top of the alder trees.....

So Glenn, what is it about older brothers and cousins anyway. My brother and cousin used to gang up on me too; although in one case they stopped using tobacco sticks as spears once I got the ax out.
