Mine was "Neutral" although WV has predominates throughout the state I sort of took on a little of each depending on which region I was living in.  It so happens that I have been living in this area for 20 years now and is longer than any of the other 6 areas of my childhood.

Northern You have a Northern accent.  That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.

"What people call the "Minnesota accent." Sounds almost Canadian. You may have even been asked if you were from Canada before"

I've never been mistaken for Canadian but, most think I come from the south. Must be my slow speech.  ???

Neutral - You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-.

Neutral,
"maybe you just moved around a lot growing up"
I noticed if I was with her folks for a few days I had a Dutch accent and after a few beers with my Irish neighbor I had developed a slight Irish accent, its funny how fast we begin to change. I've always thought the Jim Gardner deep southern mouth full of marbles accent kind of strange and wonder how it evolved, I think its fairly recent, these are English, Scots and Irish descendants. In the south they think I'm from the north, in the north they talk about my drawl. A client in Iowa said I had a deep southern accent, go figure.

I'm Western.  Imagine that.  Born in Oregon - Since '71 in CA.

Western Western is kind of neutral, but not quite since it`s still possible to tell where you`re from.  So you might not actually be from the West (but you probably are).  If you really want to sound "neutral," learn how to say "stock" and "stalk" differently.

Well folks from the south think I'm from the north; and them up north think I'm from the south.  For all of you who say your accent is neutral, well you're just wrong unless you are from the east-mid-west. ;)  It has been shown scientifically that Ohio, particularily in middle part of the state has the neutral American accent.

Having said that, hillbilly  :o crept into southern central Ohio some how after I left to get edgeamacated. ???

My wife who is German came out as neutral.  ???

glenn kangiser

That is because she learned proper English. :)

Neutral You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-.  Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity.  You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be.  Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Born in Michigan, but I lived in St. Louis from age 4 until 11. Plus, I did, indeed, move around a whole lot so my result doesn't surprise me. however since living in the South, I find I have begun getting a small Southern accent, which is fine by me  ;)

I tested as Neutral, but then I have spent most of my working career on the phone with people from all over  North America.  I have always picked up the local color, along with pronunciations from elsewhere that intrigue me.   I am a west coast kid having lived in California, Oregon, and Washington.  Dad was an English teacher and fussy about what came out of his kid's mouths, a bit of a rub when I was interacting a lot with Canadians in Alberta.  Poor guy, made him crazy.  They should have called him an American Language teacher.   :D

It came up as "neutral", but when we first moved to WI, I got told a lot of times what a "cute little accent you got there"... tempted me to pull the full Scarlett.  I also got told a lot of times that I didn't talk as slow as most Okies, but then I know very few Okies who actually speak slowly, and figure the folks that told me that wouldn't know an Okie from okra.

Mountain folks don't have accents....Everyone else that does!

Ssis, and how long have you lived down here?   ;D  When I was a kid, one of my friend's mom's was from Mexico.  I'd come home from their house with all my "i's" sounding like long "e's".  Somehow that never happened when I lived in Wisconsin, though... never picked up the way they say "o" and the phrases that they use.  However, I did notice my second daughter saying "yous guys" one time.... Thankfully the girls still call pop "Coke" and don't talk about soda because people around here would think they meant baking soda.  And my oldest says "fan" with two syllables.  I think they sound more like Okies that I do, for the most part.

North Central, or more correctly Canajun.   ;D

I'm from Southern Indiana, so I would say this is right.

I also went to speech class for six years while a kid, maybe that has something to do with how I pronounce words too? Who knows?
