Hmmm ... My bad ... I didn't think anyone noticed.... [noidea'

I found it and unlocked it the other day......  [ouch]

You see... it's like this.  I have been posting quite a bit from my Samsung Note, and while it is quite a bit larger than a small cell phone, it is not real big.... size does matter I guess..... [shocked]

So I have these fingers about the size of billy clubs trying to move around the screen and type something... then I slide across the screen and accidentally hit the lock topic button and don't realize it.... yup....sorry dude.... I did it to myself.... [waiting]

Oh man, I can sympathize.  I have the same problem sometimes. d*

I'll keep my leather on.... just in case it does fall though....[waiting]

Hmmm. ....multiple choice on the poll.......... haven't I suffered enough abuse already? ???

Glenn do to one political party or another and both of their accusations that one side seen as to needing to do everything for everyone and the other other side seen as not needing to do anything for anyone.  I sir in the voting decided to go with  I'd just sit there and tip up another cold one..... or none of the above....

Due to the fact I have been clean and sober since 1990 tipping a cold one would be some what counter productive .......so sir I have decided to do none of the above.  However I did vote and I as well made sure there were no hanging chads ...  dimpled do-dads .... or none of the I was confused I meant to vote for ________ but something made me vote for______________.

Tomorrow will be our last day here in our home that was our for over twenty years.  So Ellen and I will be moving on, and will be off the radar until we establish a new internet connection some time in the future.  Satellite seems to be the best option.  And most likely will be back one of these days with a new handle one more suitable for the new digs.

Thanks for all you do and the jabs we have traded over the past couple years.  Been in good fun and -- so until some time latter on.

Bye for now.....

Hey Rick......

No chance you have cell phone service there?  An unlocked Android will easily give you internet via WIFI Hotspot or tethering . Tethering  is best as it uses less power. An Android will power internet for up to 8 computers.

Just thought I'd mention it.  A locked one will do it for continuous extra fees from your carrier. [ouch]

Glenn's off hiking on the other side of the mountains...  guess the 1st hike was 8+ miles w/2000 foot incline overall @ 9000+ feet - in addition to side trips.  He says he's taken lots of pix so am looking forward to seeing them.  Of course he's had to explore some mines & do some fishing  c*

I don't think I could handle the elevation and incline these days

Glenn must be in good shape -- lookin forward to the pics

It's true... I went hiking because weather may be coming and I wanted to get to the May Lundy Mine before possible snowfall closes the pass.

I made a rush trip after work on Friday night and got there in time to sleep in the truck at the Lundy Lake dam which is the start of the trail head.  The elevation at the mine is listed as 9678 feet on one site.  Lundy Lake is listed as elevation of 7808 feet.  I did go a bit higher and farther making the trip about 8 miles round trip.

It is about 3 hours from the underground complex.  Whitlock and I went to the lake about a month ago fishing but I have been wanting to go to the mine for a couple years.

I woke up about 4:07 and was on the trail at 4:57 - love those digital clocks on the phone.  Makes numbers a bit easier to remember.  I did the first couple hours of the hike by starlight and moonlight not even turning on my flashlight.  The grade is roughly 11%  I think per distance and elevation gain.  [ouch]

This pix was on the trail just as the sun was starting to rise.

I just watched for rock shadows while walking the trail and had no problem.

A short rest before continuing on into Lakes Canyon where the mine is.

Glenn looks like a true prospector in that pic.  [cool]

glenn kangiser

Thanks Ben.... I think....  ???

The trail is actually the old wagon and mule road they used to get down to Lundy (town and mill - Lake was apparently later) from the mine ..made in the 1880s or so

This tells a bit about the town...

As I was hiking up the road I was thinking of the history I had read about that very road... I'll have to see if I can find it again... maybe it was in a book....

History quote "It is worthy of mention that in 1881 the Sierra Telegraph Company extended its line from Lundy to Yosemite Valley, where it made connection with Street's line to Sonora."

I had read to watch for the historic old telegraph line along the trail.  I saw several more on the way.

Here is a historic picture of the old mine I was headed to see.  I assume it was well deteriorated as I heard the Forest Service burned it down.... they are well known for destroying a lot of history around here in the name of limiting liability or some such hogwash....

As I continued up the mountain the terrain started to level out a bit approaching Lakes Canyon.

Checked out the altitude on my Samsung Note... app called GPS Test.  Note the altitude below the speed and the little globe shows where the satellites are...American and Russian.  The Russian satellites are what improve the accuracy and actually make it reliable all the time for navigation on the streets driving.  With only the American satellites my old Android was constantly dropping me while driving making it unsafe to rely on... could have been the ATT crapware also.  ATT wants to profit off of anything you do on the phone so they may have wanted me to get frustrated with free navigation and buy their ATT Navigator paying monthly.  At any rate the unlocked Android solved the problem.

Checking the topo map for where I was when the pix was taken, it looks like the elevation was very close to exactly accurate.

After a couple hours of uphill hiking I finally made it to the Hoover Wilderness.... yay.....  [cool]

More soon.  :)

I wonder if my grandfather made the Lundy plaque, I know he made a majority of the ones up in that area, he had a foundry in Oakland.

I'll be up in Yosemite in a few weeks for a five day backpacking trip, starting at Twin Lakes and packing in.

glenn kangiser

Cool.  There are a lot of historic plaques around that area.  [cool]

I once flew a bunch of doctors to Bridgeport and took them up to Twin Lakes to drop them off for a skiing trip from Twin into Little Yosemite Valley where someone was supposed to pick them up.... I hope they made it.  Snow and avalanches in that area. [noidea'

Have a great trip, pmichelson.

Just before that it was zipping right along to where you couldn't read the digits as they changed....  ::)

I just stopped to take the picture so that is why it says zero.... [shocked]
