MountainDon

I think I want a mattress tied to the tree.    :-\
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

glenn kangiser

It's all better now Don.... could use a bit more rubber in the bungee though.  [idea]

Think I will try it without the brace board too..... :)

Sassy

Texas Tornado,  [rofl2]  I was trying hard to subdue my laughing cuz I was holding the camera  rofl  All I need to do is send Glenn out to the zipline & have him ride it a couple times & I'll almost have my quota of laughs for the day  heh heh

MtnDon, the mattress sounds like a good idea  ;D  I'm waiting until Glenn gets the harness & a better seat or straps that go around your legs in a sitting position...  Otherwise, I know I'd probably fall off  ::)  I've got enough damage to my body w/out purposely inflicting more  [waiting]  Hopefully by the time you come by here it will be "perfectly safe."   :D  If I don't have a broken arm or something else by then, you can figure it is safe  d*

Mgramann,  w*  to the craziness!  A zipline across the river would be a whole lot of fun!  I used to jump off a bridge into the Merced River when I camped in Yosemite...  that was pretty cold, too - would make your legs ache if you got in slowly & took your breath away when you jumped in...  but it was fun!

Bentogo & Cowboy Billy,  you will just have to come by & give it a try  c*

Looks like fun.  I don't think I would care much for the return trip.  Maybe a cable to pull you back up the hill. ;)

H-e-e-e-y, there's an idea, Glenn.
Stick a telephone pole at the bottom end and rig a line for return.......

Rick, don't hurt yourself laughing.  :)

It is fun and seemingly getting less dangerous with each change I make...... [waiting]

The return trip is not too bad, John because it's only about a 20 foot elevation drop over 175 feet though I think the zip-line drop is only about 10 or 12'.  It is amazing how fast it gets going with the high speed trolley though.

I have thought of a return cable, Gary, though it would have to be at a lower level then walk back up hill to the original level and the trolley would have to be reset to the second cable at the other end.  [idea]

It is entertaining and I think we have a few in line to try it out soon.  Harnesses are not here yet.

In the future I want to make one starting high that goes a lot further then has a big sag in it going way up a tree at the other end where you shoot up it then roll back and forth before finally settling in the bottom..... :)

I have had thoughts of a thing like that, TT.  There is a big elevation drop to our spring.  Probably will never get that one done though.  [ouch]

We need one of those here in the foothills of the mountains in SC.The owners and operators would get tired of seeing me.  [cool]

Glenn,do be careful, would ya?I wanna come visit you guys one day and put off paying my respects to Sassy a few more years.  [waiting]

Thanks for the concern, Ben.  I have been inspecting this thing each ride and I know the strength of things pretty well....still, I wonder if I should not take the test trolley seat up to the shop and double up the welds.  hmm

It is built from 3/4 EMT conduit to be light and I know it is plenty strong.... still... you wonder... what would happen if this thing sent me hurling off into outer space for some odd reason........ [noidea'

I think this call for the safety mankini....We who have to wear those lime / pea green safety vests with the reflective striping at work, or when out side a locomotive cab can tell you.  Each and  every one of us.  Absolutely nothing if you are wearing your safety vest.  It is like a titanium shield.  Automobiles and locomotives just bounce off.  If you fell off or it came loose you would not feel a thing.

By the way for us that is a federally mandated requirement on Class 1 railroads.  Thank you mister goberment for protecting us and making wear this rag that catches on everything you come close to....... Yep I think the zip line calls for a safety mankini....

The nice mister goberment man will most likely require it when your video goes viral.  You might have to wear steel toed shoes, leather leggings and a welders helmet and the mankini before he is done with your safety.  Not to mention a governor on the trolley its self.  But remember this is not about control of an uneducated poor commoner.  It is actually your safety he is concerned about.

Dang bear stole my bag of grain.... and he was sloppy about it.  I followed the trail down the hill a ways but never found the bag.  Maybe tomorrow I will check it out better with an equalizer strapped on.

It may have been coming back tonight as the dogs were all riled up, but didn't find it.

On another note... Cherry the calf is growing a lot.  She looks a bit scruffy in this pix but actually looking at her she looks great.  Growing fast.

Better check yer compound, Glenn, it may not be a bear....

I know for a fact they are watching me....... you never know where they will be......  the "G" men...... [noidea'

I don't remember them ever admitting to wearing the mankini though....... hmm

Sort of a new take on G men....takes them to a new low!  Woow!  What have you done Glenn?

I am not sure how this will sit with them, Rick..... [noidea'

Waiting for direction from my contact....  [waiting]

I was not kidding ... I made a non-governmentally correct posting and an agent showed up the next day.......

I removed the posting....let them know I was on to them...... use the red phone when I need to check in...just to see how I am doing sometimes......

They assured me they were from the Federal Government and were here to help me....

They monitor me to make sure I do not return to sanity.....as long as that doesn't happen I think we are OK.....

Oh yeah... you could tear my fingers off with a zipline trolley and I could not reveal their identity..... [ouch]

I took the brace out today and tightened the cable a bit more to compensate.  Readjusting and increasing the size of the bungee to keep from hitting the end of the line so hard. [ouch]

I now cruise above the ground a few inches without hitting it, then come to a pretty abrupt stop at the end of the bungee.  I am adding to the bungee in multiple independent straps so if one breaks it will be just a bit harder hit but not damaging.  I will add the third one tomorrow.

It is getting strong enough to pull me backward about 30 to 40 feet to a good spot to get off.  I think one more will do it.

Only fooled with it for a short time today, but it is coming along.  :)

I put the third 7' long bungee (comprised of multiple rubber snubber bungees) on the zipline this morning.  I squeezed all of the "S" hooks together in case we ever have one break so that there is no chance for it to rip a chunk of flesh out of someones forehead.  [ouch]

There are three bungees independent of one another so it is unlikely to ever have all of them fail at once and even one makes a safe but bumpy stop.....none makes a stop-and legs into the limbs..... [waiting]

With all three it is perfectly smooth...abrupt but smooth.  :)

It then sends you hurtling backward 40 feet for a safe dismounting point on the high spot where you nearly hit the bottom on the way through.  Works out well.

Video is uploading now - should be ready in an hour or so.... :)

....and didn't die.....

Somehow I tried to think of two things at once and forgot to tell ......the rest of the story......    [waiting]

Videos up... check it out and note the .......smoooooooth stop at the end.    :)
