Hi everybody.
I just stumbled on this forum, and joined up.
Wife and I are building an off grid cabin in NYS. Hope to be done by winter.
We are planning on full timing there, but that will depend on finding work in the area first.
Not really the best time to be looking for work lol..
Lots of great information here. We got a lot of good ideas from you folks.
Anyway, nice to meet y'all. Hope to have some pics for "show and tell" later this summer.
Have a good week.

There are many of us building in NYS (New york state?)  It is a big state.  What area?

How far along are you?  I am also probably not connecting to the power grid.  How were inspections in your area?

Southern finger lakes area.. Out in the woods on a dirt road.
So far, the land is paid for, and we are working with an Amish builder on our "shed".
The permit, is about to be on the way, as soon as we decide on the size.
Was told under 180 sq ft was something like $35 over 180 sq ft depends on the cost of the shed.
Don't know about inspections. Should I expect anything?

I only have a few of the land.
It's just some pics of trees  :)
Not really much to see yet.
We are thinking about a 12x16 bunkie, with an out house to start, and see how it goes. Add on from there.
Don't plan on spending much time indoors..
Thanks for the welcome folks. I like this forum a lot.

I have not heard many stories about inspections in that area.  I heard the ones around Ithaca can be sticklers with septic.  It most depends on if neighbors complain.  If they do, it can be a real headache.  I am to the east in Otsego County.  So far I like my inspector.  I am going the full house route.

Nice location - love that area.  I went to Elmira College and also lived in Trumansburg (across the lake from Ithaca).  The best fall foliage on the whole east coast.

I always thought so too..
I drove semi trucks for 6-7 years, (not anymore) and always loved going through the area.
Now if we can just decide on the cabin we want and how to pay for it, we'll be in business :D

w* to the forum.  NY is a nice state once you get out of the city. :)

I have relatives there and my grandfather was born there.
