Anyone have a tried an true cold remedy.  No moonshine does not take care of it. Yes it disappears but returns after the glow wears off.  Been cutting the work days short this past week.  Just don't have the drive.  It has probably been two years since I had one so when I get one it takes a toll.  My DW said not to go work if I didn't feel good.  I agreed with her.  Then she said you go work on the cabin if you were dead. ;D  Just cut back on the manuel part of the labor and shorter days.

Chop a head (whole thing) of garlic  put in jar, cover with honey.  Let sit for a day or so..  take a spoonfull three times a day when empty do it again.    Garlic is an anti-biotic and anti-fungal.

I seldom get anything, John.  I was going to post but somehow got distracted.

I use Yerba Santa here- it grows wild - but then I seldom need it.  It's good for everything.

The honey is also said to have anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Garlic, lemon, honey, chicken noodle soup, zinc, all are pretty good at helping relieve cold symptoms and send you on your way to health.

I'm no help John. I just ignore it. I found a long time ago that if I stayed home and rested, I was sick for several days, but, if I just kept on working, I was better the next day.

All I've ever found were just fair to good symptom relievers----My hillbilly grandma swore by a spoonful of sugar with a few drops of "coal oil" (kerosene) for sore throats----tasted terrible but did coat your throat pretty good and seemed to last a few hours. Probably your throat just went into shock. The best over-the-counter stuff I've found is Nyquil----if you choke down a shot just before bed (it too tastes terrible) it will, at least allow you a good night's sleep---a sort of drugged one, but I have found sleeping through the worst symptoms helps.

Red, my best cure is homemade chicken soup... put LOTS of garlic, oregano, and cilantro in it, and some green chilies (not too hot; runny nose hot, not watery eyes hot.)  I always put carrots, onions, celery, and sometimes stuff like chard in mine too, but whatever you've got works.  If you like noodles or rice, they can also be added.  I also make it saltier when I've got a cold.  I don't know why, but it just tastes better, and I like it better than gargling salt water.  It doesn't cure my colds, but it makes me feel a lot better.  I also like echinacea tea or peppermint tea when I've got a cold.  Maybe it is just a bit psychological, but the warmth helps, and if I sweeten it with honey, it also seems to help with the cough.  Ginseng tea is also nice, if you can find it.  If you're too sick to make homemade chicken noodle soup, dump a can of the canned stuff, a can of chicken meat in a pot and add the garlic, oregano, and cilantro.  It can almost make it taste like a real meal.

...a mouth full of salt water then sit on a hot stove until it comes to a boil... wait that was for a toothache...not a cold.

I resemble that remark. I haven't had a knock me out of action ailment in a long time. I had a flu shot the other day and I asked the nurse if it would give me the flu as I have heard several people say it did with them. She said no, it is a dead virus that is used. I got the shot but no flu. I also got a tetanus shot and no tetanus. So I guess it is working.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

Thanks for all the replies.  I have eaten so much garlic in the past few days that I would feel comfortable living in Transilvania without any fear.

I guess it just has to run it's course mostly.  I did break down and bought some "Zicam" which has helped a little as far as treating the symtoms.  I think that I just pushed it too far until my immune system broke down a little and allowed a bug to jump on board.  Now that I have semi-rested this week and weekend I can feel that I am on the mend somewhat.  Will see what tomarrow brings.

Thanks again
