Not sure I'm going to do anything, but a discussion popped up recently at my work with the potential to change vehicles for my wife, only I am unsure if it's really any better of a deal. Assuming money was not in the equation (i.e; assuming equal amounts for either choice), which would you go for?

Depends entirely on your particular needs. Camry will likely be cheaper to run, cheaper to keep. Rover may be safer in a crash and offer 4wd, but more costly to run and especially to maintain.

I would have to say the car with the least mileage. Not that the mileage is the deciding factor but service on the Land Rover is really $$$$.  I am not sure what the warranty on the car would be but I am sure that any remainnig on the Rover is out.  Plus the mileage would be a killer.   Might send Peternap a PM I thought once he said his wife had a Rover.  Think his mileage stunk.

To me that's an apple and an orange type of a thing.

The LR could do everything the Camry could do for you. But cost more doing it. But not the other way around.

That's why we have both a Honda Civic and a Jeep Cherokee.

If I had to pick only one, and everything else in my life was still the same, I'd have to keep my Jeep. Or the LR in your comparison, if I needed it's capabilities. As for myself, I wouldn't want the LR if I was needing a 4WD, but that's just me MTL.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

In general, the Camry would be much more reliable----Land Rovers, like most english vehicles do not have a good reliability rating. Though if she really really needs a 4wd if may be a good choice-----have you considered a Subaru----have owned two and found them to be both very reliable and very capable on snow or ice.

I have heard the Landrovers were pretty buggy and the Camry is likely much more reliable and likely to be more trouble free.  I think they -Landrovers- are cool from an old TV movie but would trust the Camry more.

Neither one actually.

I'm still trying to unload my 83 Bronco.

It's in the barter thread.

My wife loves hers and you couldn't give it to me with a dollar bill taped on it.

First, they are nothing but Fords. Just like the Lincoln Mark II I had (another dog) the air suspension is insane. As a matter of fact, it's in the shop now for that. 500.00 to 1000.00 bill guaranteed.

Second, they drink gas. Her mileage isn't any better than my Chevy 2500

Third, they are very bad off road. The full time 4wd sucks and if you stick it in low manually, yoy blow fuses when you go through water.

4th, they do not tow well at all. The cooling system and suspension is only good if your towing your Skidoo to the lake (I don't have a skido BTW)

In short....It's a yuppie truck and while Jane is a yuppie, I's just an old redneck!

thanks everyone for putting in your opinions.  I believe were going to stay with the practical car and pass on someone else's used toy this time around.  I really do appreciate the insight and thoughts provided above.
