My Dell laptop keyboard quit responding.   >:(  So I got the on screen keyboard up. This is a drag; like texting. I had a slow online chat with Priya someplace in IN I suspect. New keyboard should be here tomorrow. I hope that solves the issue.

FYI, in Win7 you can find it under; start | all programs | accessories | ease of access | on screen keyboard.  Other Windows have somewhere too. As long as you can mouse it works.

I've had good luck with Dell keyboards and have an extra one sitting around I wish I could just stick in the transinductive digital object assembler.

Which reminds me of a video....

Several years ago, Rockwell International decided to get into the heavy duty transmission business.  They were getting ready to tape an introductory video, and, as a warm up, the professional narrator began an over the top explanation of this new engineering wonder. This is strictly off the cuff, nothing is written down.

You can buy a cheap usb keyboard for about 5 bucks that you can plug into your laptop.

I don't have a USB keyboard laying aroud.   :(  If I need I can always use Karen's desktop 'puter though.

I must hand it to Dell. The part arrived this afternoon. Somebody from Dell telephoned to make sure the part had arrived. They offered assistance on installing the replacement. I wasn't in so they left a contact number in case I needed some help.  I did it myself in 15 minutes after dinner, including the time to collect the 2 tools required. The new one works!!!!  Hooray!!

Dell got a lot of bad publicity due to bad service and uncaring attitude- sounds like they may be trying to make amends.

John,

That video made me laugh out loud! Thanks for the first smile of the day.  [cool]

Dell also followed up yesterday with a call to make certain that the new keyboard solved the problem.   :) :)

I've owned a few Dells over the years but only had to call for service three times. Twice back in the late 80;s - early 90's and then this week. I guess I missed out on any service level issues they've gone through. The service this week was actually better than the service way back, and at that time  I thought it was excellent. They never did the follow up calls way back.
