We are leaving for Georgia Thursday to get our new Newfoundland puppy. She will be 9 weeks old on the 20th. We are really looking forward to getting her. Our newfy is getting old, nearly 12 years and that is getting up there in years for the giant breeds. We want to have another in our home before Whimsey leaves us, as we will be losing a family member. She has been through the good times and the bad times. Once you have had a newfy in the house, you can not be without one. Will post a picture as soon as we get back.

Congrats on the new family member.

I was introduced to this breed 10+ years ago when moving into our home. The neighbor down the street had one (Sherlock, was his name).
In the first week of living here (I had lived in anchorage prior for a few years), I was looking about 2 houses down (my glasses not on) and saw what I thought was a bruin! I yelled to the kids, "bear" they jumped into the car like they were suppose to. The neighbors looked at me confused. Then the dog turned his head towards me (he was sitting with his back towards me at first). Then I realized it was a dog! Big breed indeed!

A Newfy!! ( or Newfie  ??? )   What a great lovable dog!
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

We have a Black lab/Newfie mix.  A gentle giant.  He is 10 years old, and still acts like a puppy sometimes.  A welcome addition to any family.
A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work any day, but building something with your own hands beats anything.

The new one will make 3 newfies we have owned or should I say have owned us. Life would not be the same with out one. Being as we live on a lake, it is an ideal place for one. Can't keep them out of the water. They are great rescue dogs. This one will be train for search & rescue also. Leaving early in the morning for our trip to Georgia. We decided to take our time and see what we can see traveling there. We might finds some interesting things on the way.

Have a great (and safe!) trip!  Hope that the new puppy fits right in to your family.  I feel the same way about Beardies.  I've had Grover now for about 11-12 years, and can't imagine what life will be like when he is gone.  Best dog who has ever had me!  (The mini-spitz, Ornery, on the other hand, is the worst dog in the world.

hi everyone,
getting back into the swing of things. love newfies(except for the drooling). i had an irish setter that died from cancer about 3 years ago(best dog i ever had), and i miss him alot so i found a top notch breeder in montana and she is shipping me an irish setter puppy in about a week. it's late, i'm tired, good night all.

Good luck to you with the pup, Dan! They seem to have a lot of energy when they're puppies... get a lot of rawhide chews!

muldoon

yay @ all the new puppies.  nothing like it.

the winner of this years dog contest(eukanuba/westminster i think) was a 10 y.o. spaniel(?) named stump. my breeder has gone against him in competition so i figured this was as good a recomendation as i could get and it turns out that she was raised in michigan not too far from where i live so we had a nice long talk. she gave me a real good price because the pup was getting a little older than they like to keep them (4 mos.) and she liked what i had to say about Casey, my irish setter that had to be put down because of cancer. dogs name is Bart but i am changing it to Aiden. i figure i might as well completly confuse him right off the bat ;D yeah, nothing like leaving your home, traveling on a jet for a day, coming to new surroundings and being called by a new name.

So you haven't met Bart/Aiden face-to-face before?  Hope it'll be good first impressions on both sides.  My mom bought a dog once sight-unseen.  When we got her, she was terrified of men, so badly flea and tick infested she needed a blood transfusion, and her ears were scarred for a long time with tick bites.  She ended up being a fiercely protective and very good watch dog, very much mom's dog.  I think in that case though, she bought Sugar from someone at work based on a picture of the litter of puppies before they were so flea-bitten.  He'll probably be thrilled to see you, though...

hi homey,
nice to talk to you again. i understand that one must be careful but this is from a nationally recognized trainer of irish setter champions. this dog is way above AKC level and could be used for breeding. i just want a companion and will have him nuetered. i was sent pix of him so i feel comfortable in this at this time. he is beautiful like his owner to be(well i'm half right anyway).

Yes, but the question is, did you send him pix of you? ;) ;D

i just bought a new wallet and i sent them the picture of the airline captain that was in there. heh

Just got back late last night with the new puppy. Her full name is AppleHill's Bryee Annah or Bryee for short. She is a beauty. She is from the best newfy lines. I will post a picture later today.  I need more sleep.

So Ssis, are you gonna holler all that from the back porch when you want her to come? ??? ::)

At what age will she be full-grown?  When I got my beardie, I found him at the pound.  He was a very young pup.  They had labelled him as a schnauzer, but I knew he couldn't be because he was too big of a pup.  My friends kept telling me they thought he was a
Newfie because he kept growing and growing and growing.  I was so relieved when he stopped at 75 lbs!  I was in college and was afraid I couldn't afford to feed a Newfoundland.

This thread is way overdue for a picture.

Finally woke up and took a picture after she had her lunch. She is 9 weeks old.
They are usually full grown at about 2 years. Newfies after they get out of puppyhood don't eat that much. We had a cat that ate more than our newfs.
