My honda generator is dead?

I am so upset. I did maint' on it, it ran flawlessly for 2 weekends and then when I tried running (which it did before) my circular saw on it - I got the overload light. It wouldn't run anything after that. I restarted it again, tried running lower tools (850w) but it will just not run them and give the overload light.

Took it to a honda dealer and he said it is 90% the inverter = new generator. I am trying to find other options to this problem... I am really upset that I will need to pay for a new one right now.

Its a seperate part- not sure if its take apartable for your local electronics shop to take a look atm and its not cheap either if you have a similar model

also worth checking would be the circuit protector- 20amp- might be weakened - knackered

The plot thickness.... But first - a question:

I am very lacking in electrical lingo... what is this circuit protector? Is it a built in part into my generator or an accessory ? (like a surge protector that plugs in for example) .

Now for the plot.... I just started it again, without the eco, and ran (seperatly of course) angle grinder (5.5amp), my compressor for a little bit but still (10amp), and my belt sander (6.2amp).... Could it be that this thing still works?

Also, I know that a circular saw will draw more than it is written on it if it encounters traction. So can it be that if some wood/glue from the plywood got into it - it is now making it work harder? How can I clean it? I did take out the blade when I was in the cabin and tried to see if it is messy there but couldn't find anything.

I've ran mine hard... miter saw, big compressor, multiple items @ a time. Isn't there supposed to be an automatic shut off if its overloaded? I'd look into this being a warranty issue.

How old is it and which size?  BTW always buy stuff like this with an AMEX card, it extends the warranty for another year.

You'd have to check the manual but maybe economode is for low wattage equipment and simply won't start a skill saw on that setting

Are you using an extension cord?
That makes a difference.
Home is where you make it

I fried some kind of capcitor on mine by running multiple power tools and charging my battery bank at the same time. It's just a cheap 3500 watt PowerMate generator I got on sale at Home Depot, but since I've been using it for over 5 years I think I got my money's worth. What happened is the charger on my Outback Inverter would not register the AC coming in from my generator, the error coming up was low voltage. When I got an electrician out, he also lives off grid and works on generators, he took the cover off the generator side and there was this little block thing that was all blown apart. I was able to order a replacement on line and put it back together and it's been running fine for going on 2 years.

Here's a link to what it looked like.

Not a fan of invertor based generators for this reason

considerations

If a dead inverter is all it is...they are totally replaceable...I'd go for a second opinion if someone is telling you it is not. I have 2 Honda eu2000's...one in reserve and have had it done.

There is also a replaceable unit that has to do with eco mode. They also can wear out...and be replaced.   The eco mode is supposed to be, plain and simple, on demand.  The gen just "idles" until there is a load, then revs to meet the load. If the unit that "governs" that goes out...then the problem like "Abbey" had comes up.

I do not see you mention the size of your honda, but the max amp output on a 2000 is 13.68.

Hondas are worth fixing, usually.
