Now that would scare the begebs out of me!!!!!!! d*

Wasn't scared at all, till I read about the sunchokes and G notes. Add that to skidmarks and I fear where we are headed. [scared]

I've got to try the sunchokes, been meaning to for a long time but never got around to it.

Glad you got the notes down, Glenn.
Been working on the twelve days of Christmas, myself.
Wanna know what a partridge in a pear tree sounds like?

Please, Gary... I can hardly wait to hear it.....  [rofl2]

Will you be playing the Bass Sax or Tuba?.....  [waiting]

Try them mtman.  They really are great. Very interesting flavor and lots of ways to cook them or ... most effective.... eat them raw.....

... and I need to get word to peternap... they are a perfect food for diabetics.... they pass through the stomach and head for the intestines where the good bacteria have their way with them extracting every last drop of methane to power that wonderful Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.  This may help in controlling blood sugar levels and lowering triglycerides. It has a low glycemic index we found from research on inulin.

Glenn,
Couple questions
First, Whatever happened to the forklift battery you acquired? Did you get it to work for you?
Second, I have a Hobart champion DC welder/generator. Couls this be used for the battery equalization?

Brian

glenn kangiser

I still have the huge forklift battery, Brian.

I checked it and likely it was on the way to the junkyard when lost, as some of the cells are bad, but they are in individual 2 volt cells, so I think I can take it apart and swap them around to get a 24 volt battery out of it.  Just haven't done it yet.

It will entail cutting the lead straps at the top, pulling the individual cells out and swapping their locations until I get 12 of them that are good. Not sure until I dig into it but soon will be a good idea to prevent more problems with sulfation,

I may see if I can get into it this week if I don't get called out.

Hobart Champion DC welder /generator... I am going to assume it is the 145.

I am going to give you a qualified yes on that.

Duty cycle if it is the 145 is 30% at full rated output, so that means run 3 minutes and  cool for 7 minutes.  It may work at more than that but once you burn the insulation off the windings it is toast......

HOWEVER, view the performance curves and you will find that 70 amps at 30 volts is good continuous, so you can equalize with it as current drops and bulk charging is completed, monitor voltage and crank it up to the desired equalize voltage, checking to be sure you don't exceed the duty cycle of the welder.

Where you will be in the voltage range depends on the state of your batteries - size of batteries,  sulfation present and a lot of other factors.  Have a voltmeter on the batteries while equalizing.  Keep the batteries full of distilled or rain water before and during equalization - not over full or it will boil out - a bit below the ring, but well over the plates is fine.  Below the plates could lead to arcing and battery destruction.

Monitor state of charge in all cells with a hydrometer.  Too long can overheat the batteries, but also bad old batteries could overheat faster too.  Best to keep them up oftener doing it for a shorter time.  Monthly to six months or so would be good.  PWM (I think MPPTs also use PWM) chargers already do a decent job of keeping sulfation away.

EDTA can also assist in chemical desulfation.

Positive to positive - negative to negative.   Check cable sizes to make sure they are big enough and don't overheat.  No sparks around the batteries - add an extension cable to make a connection away from the batteries.  Sparks can result in a hydrogen explosion blowing the top off of the batteries and spewing sulfuric acid and plastic shrapnel everywhere.  This applies to any charging method or even jumper cables on a truck.  Goggles or safety glasses would be good to use.

Emergency escape route.... We accidentally drifted into some slightly degenerating Oregonian discussion.  Not bad enough to be removed IMO, but if you think you might be offended, and you just don't want to read any of that type of thing.... please take this emergency escape and bypass it......

Get me outa here and take me to where something meaningful is said

The above link will take you safely down the page skipping over the senseless drivel
... :)

Ummm Gary..... I had this really good reply when Sassy told me the topic was degenerating, whatever that means, so I thought I better not post it until I looked that big word up...... [waiting]

She said go straight to your room and do not come out until you can do at least ten times better... but she will still not allow me to reply to it even if you do manage to improve.....[waiting]

Gary.... backing out, I assume you are downwind....
There is no 'downwind'.......made my special chip dip tonight...small house....cold outside.
The wife lady ate as much of it as I.
Gonna be a dutch oven contest in about an hour.
Funny thing, when we first met, everything was all pristine and careful...least on her end (no play on words here).
Then one cold evening I managed to land a salvo directly on her foot (don't ask).
I can proudly say, it must have been pretty potent, because she threw the covers back and immediately went and washed it.
Been war ever since......I don't sleep with my mouth open.

Ya better watch it, Gary, Glenn almost destroyed his computer when he read your posting after taking a big swig of coco con pulpa...   [cool]

[rofl2] rofl [rofl2]    Snort.... honk....

Coco con pulpa..... translated from Spanish means "Chunks of Coconut Pulp lodged in my sinuses."

Also from that we can assume, dripping through my beard, running down my arm, shooting from my nose,  spewing out the cracks between my fingers and nearly destroying the keyboard of a thousand dollar computer.

Gary.... warn me not to read the second sentence next time after taking a drink.... you nearly killed me and my computer..... [waiting]

Thanks, Gary... got it covered, washed my hands and rinsed my beard.  Wiped the top of my can of Coco Con Pulpa off with the paper towel my wife says she wiped up the cat food with.  She told me after I took a drink and mentioned that somehow I got dirt all over the top of it.   [noidea'

Have a good enjoyable night Gary... :)

So.... meanwhile back at the ranch.... It rained yesterday morning and threatened to do it some more .  I made several water retention basins and removed a bunch of brush the afternoon before - that would be Saturday.

I jumped on the Bush Hog and took my dry land  horse pasture seed and spread it over the roughly 3/4 to 1 acre that I tore up.  It is also supposed to continue to reseed itself once established, unlike my hair which chose to recede itself once it was established.

Either it will grow or I just made a whole bunch of mountain birds real happy.....the pasture seed.... not the hair.....
.......... unless the birds have been building nests with it all of these years..... then that may make them happy too.... [waiting]
