LOL Adirondoc, yup we're happy with them.

This weekend we worked on the stonework at the entrance and finished the hearth.  We love how it turned out.  It was a lot of work and very hot but well worth the pain and suffering  :)

Nice stone work... That will be appreciated for many many years.
None of us are as smart as all of us.

With the help of our son who was home on leave we were able to move the Jotul to its new home :)

We made a quick trip up to the cabin this weekend to finish a few odds and ends.  The last of the curtains were put up and we installed the light over the sink area.  In the next couple of weeks we plan on making some counter tops, we're going to try our hand at concrete :)

I'm learning how to do woodburning and maybe do some things around the cabin, this is a little foot stool I burned.

CjAl

be sure to document the countertops. i am interested in seeing that.

love the foot stool

We built the small countertop to see if we will like how it looks.  We have to leave the forms on for 4 days, so next weekend we'll have a better idea.

New addition to the cabin

Nice work!  Looking forward to see how the counter top works out.

Beautiful work all around - love the wood burnings - I, too, am looking forward to seeing the counter top.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and encouragement.  We spent about a day and a half up at the cabin this past weekend.  My husband poured the cement into the large counter top mold he built there last week  Next week we can take the molding off and start the sanding and finishing work.  We like how the small top turned out, it isn't perfect but hey it's a cabin and it's rustic :)

Managed to get a couple of things done this weekend........finished the trim rings on the soffit lights, installed the smoke detectors, took the forms off of the counter top and then cleaned up the mess.

Next week we'll seal the counter top and wax it.  It has slight imperfections but we really like how it turned out.

Sassy

Nice job on the counters!  Can't wait to see them when you seal & wax them  :)

Lots of little things this weekend...... stained the countertop and sealed it, installed the faucet and then moved our temporary kitchen from the bathroom to its rightful place :)  It's nice having a working kitchen sink :)

We hung a few more things on the wall, we're especially delighted with a lovely set of pictures mom took of some grizzly bears on a trip to Alaska.  Thanks Mom!!!  We love it!!

Sassy

Counters look great, love the pix your mom took of the bears  :)  Everything looks very nice!

Thanks Sassy :)

This weekend our biggest job was working on the chimney for the wood stove.  After that, we installed a couple of fans on the porch and some kitchen cabinet organizers.

A co-worker of my husband builds furniture, so we had him make a small coffee table and stool, we are so happy with them.

Next weekend we're hoping to install our spiral stair.

mogie01

We took Friday off this week and headed up to the cabin on Thursday night.  Our spiral stairs were scheduled for delivery some time on Friday and we wanted to make sure we were there for the delivery.  The stairs arrived early afternoon and we started to assemble them.  All in all it went smoothly.

We also hung a plate rack and shelf.

Stairs look good. Who is the manufacturer and what size?  I am trying to build a set of alternating step stairs but may need to look at spiral stairs if that does not work out.

Thanks ellbaker, we bought the stairs from salter spiral in PA, their website is salterspiralstair.com.  They were really nice to deal with and the quality of the stairs is fantastic, I definitely recommend them.  We needed the stairs to be code compliant, so they are 5'

Another beautiful weekend in northern Michigan, the fall colors have started and it's absolutely beautiful.

We got a lot done this weekend.  The loft railings are up.  The leftover D-logs worked great for the railing.

The barnlights above the kitchen have been installed.

The next thing will be the kitchen appliances which we are saving for.  We were able to sell our old trailer so that will help with the appliances.

spectacular job on the railings. What dimension are your uprights? did you just use rebar?
