Know just a little bit about stirlings having seen a few in action, ram pumps too. What really fascinates me though, is their application today. I love watching people apply unique equipment in practical applications.

Was considering a ram pump but didn't favor the constant clicking just out back. My creek is moody as well, raging some days and barely a 6" deep on others. Antique tractors come real cheap around here and many are sold in good working condition. I'd love to see a real oldie still out plowing. I wonder if they're manageable for a greenhorn like me... Now if only those lovely old farmalls came with a backhoe option....but I digress

Great stuff, Glenn. You've got as much there as our humble little "museum of antique farm power" does.

glenn kangiser

Thanks, Doc.  The old tractors are pretty neat.  Some of them are a bit dangerous.  No roll over protection for one thing.

Another thing that still claims lives is that while not extremely powerful all of the time, they had so much torque at their very low gearing that some of the drawbar attachments would allow the load to stop the tractor if too heavy, but the tractor, rather than stopping would begin to climb its own ring gear raising the front wheels off of the ground.

If not fast on the clutch, the operator would be swatted like a fly as the tractor continued to climb the ring gear and flop over backwards on top of them.  [ouch]

This recently happened to a lady pulling stumps in the mountains near us - in the last 15 years or so.  A friend of a friend. [shocked]

Museum stuff... hmm ... I have lots of old gold mining equipment too - mostly not set up but maybe someday... [waiting]

This looks a lot like an old mixer my dad had, he used his to do all of the concrete work at their house. Last I heard he gave it to a friend who was going to go through the whole thing and get it running. Don't think it has run in about 15 years.

This mixer will run....if I work on it a bit.  Probably about two hours or less work to get it going I think.

Haven't had it running in about 20 years either....

Old but still works... like me..:)

Is it belt driven?  Not you but the mixer   rofl

Thanks for the Jamestown Roundhouse link!  I would love to live close to that place.  I will put that in my list of places to visit if we ever make it out of Idaho again...... [waiting]  Our trips for this year have sort of fiZZLED!  I sort of have my doubts we will get away this year at all.

The mixer has a rather large chain drive on it Rick.  I thought I had a picture of the old hit and miss engine but couldn't find it.  I only have something like 11000 pictures so they take a bit to go through even on the computer....  :)

Belt driven....moi... no ..... driven by the voices in my head... [ouch]

Hey Rick, if you get to come down to Jamestown Railtown, we could come up and meet you there.  It is about an hour and a half north of us.  :)

Also We have the Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad about an hour South of us near Oakhurst or Fish Camp.

Finally got off of the job in the East Bay area where the concrete man decided to put the door openings within a few inches of where they are supposed to go rather than where they are supposed to go.  Now it looks like he gets to move all of the steel and wood columns where he thought the door should go so we can make the canopies line up over the doors..... [waiting]

Crimoney... what ever happened to sticking to the plans... or maybe that should be preceded by learning to read them?  [noidea'

Since the door openings were in the wrong place the framer built the building to them so now other drastic measures need to be taken to make things look OK..... [ouch]

Finding the problem was a combination of me and our detailer in Missouri and if you don't think that was fun... but it was made a lot easier by my Samsung Note phone/tablet.

I was able to receive plans from the detailer and view them on the phone as I talked to him on it.  Never had to leave the site or the conversation.  I could not do that six months ago.  Would have to go to the motel for internet access then print the plan and come back to the job.  Isn't technology lovely....  [cool]

Farmer got crushed last weekend near the WI farm -- pulling a stump-- age 62 (just like me) should have known better
Often, our ignorance is not as great as our reluctance to act on what we know.

glenn kangiser

I guess it is still happening.  I think possibly stump pulling is one thing that should not be done with a wheel tractor.    Even with the newer drawbar setups, if the clutch is popped and you are going up in the air and can no longer reach it, I think you might be dead meat..... [waiting]

The reason that could work is that if the chain is strong enough and the stump solid enough, all it has to do is pull itself backward enough to continue on over so the top of the tractor can reach the bottom.

Gosh... I love my new phone.... [waiting]........

I know.... Like.... shut up about your stupid new phone already, Glenn..... [ouch]

The garden is growing like crazy.  76f or more degree nights and the growing hardly slows down.    :)

Actually much bigger since that photo.  I hate to use any sprays on the garden at all as the tiny frogs are everywhere eating the bugs as well as a few big fat toads.

Got these this morning.

Sending the beets down to BIL in the valley.  One of them must have been near 3 lbs.

Another shot of the cute stuff.... [waiting]

Regarding that, Ben, I found a very cool web site where you just enter all of the ingredients you have - vegetables etc, and it searches the net for appropriate recipes using what you have and maybe suggesting a few more things you might need.

It really helps with the ability to vary the menu.   VERRRRRY   [cool]

Gosh, Glenn, not a day goes by you don't surprise me with something. First an introduction to early internal combustion, next an awesome site! I'm going to make that site required reading by the sig other!  [cool] My taste buds thank you in advance.

glenn kangiser

Glad you like it, Ben and Doc.   :)

Sassy and I have already tried it with a great Asian Eggplant dish.  [hungry]

OK .... well... I found the recipe and she cooked it and I ate it.   Sounds entirely fair to me. [ouch]

As you keep adding ingredients more and more dishes that you have everything for become available, but there are always 2000 recipes brought up that you might need a few things to make also.   [cool]

Short on beef?  Try this out and let me know how you like it.... [waiting]

Your garden is 3 months ahead of ours, Glenn

our potatoes are just popping out ot the ground

we are trying this mulch garden this year we had 3 cu yd of mulche delivered -- I spread it over the garden -- about 4 inches deep

http://backtoedenfilm.com/index.html

so far it is good

we have had 4 days of 90 - 95 degree with high winds -- it is drying everything out but the garden looks good

The beets and onions I started Feb. 7th, Windpower.  It is paying off now.  Lots of good vegetables.... but I need a bunch of energy to get out and get after it again. [ouch]

Long days of work and travel in the East Bay area have me a bit burned out, plus moving more of our junk from the place we sold... OK - mostly my junk at this point but still a lot of work.

Thanks for the movie link - I want to watch that soon.

I was just thinking today I need to get after mulching also.  Ground is drying out pretty badly but all of the compost and wood chips has made it a lot better.  Just needs the top mulch added also.   :)

Tomorrow back to the valley for another load of unnatural resources... I'll be glad when it's all over.

Crimoney, I'm getting tired of moving stuff.... [waiting]

Latest adventure completed for this moment at least.  Trying to get all of the odd stuff from the shop at the other place so the new owner can have it.....[ouch]

4 Mexican workers.. and I mean workers and my friend from here who needed work and me.....

We put 4 foot high sides on the trailer then filled it rather full.  It was a little squirrely  on the county road around 45 - possibly due to being a bit tongue light .... or  a not too good tire.

Headed up the freeway thinking that on the better road it would get better.... [idea]

It did for a bit then started squirming ... right in front of a CHP (California Highway Patrol).... [noidea'

He pulls up beside me and waves me off of the freeway.......

I pull over to the next exit and he keeps going.

I don't know if he wanted to ticket me but was too busy or just wanted that scary load off of his freeway.  [scared]

I didn't wait around to find out ... just dropped it down to 40 and back roads all the way.

Get on the back road for about 20 miles and BANG.... blew a tire - right rear trailer tire outside ....

No jack but had a spare.  Backed it on to a block of wood on the inside dual ... pulled off the outside one and couldn't get it out between the frame and hub.....

Got out the crane.  A long reach but pulling hard and retracting the crane in allowed me to lift it enough to get the tire changed.  Great... On the road again.......  :o

For about another 20 miles...... BANG.... Left front inside trailer tire blows ..... inside one looked pretty decent ... no more spares or patience....

On the road again with 7 tires on the trailer on the ground.  A slow drive up the mountain anyway..... we made it.

I just looked at my trailer and thought... I'll deal with you later...... [waiting]

By the way ...did I mention that I shot myself in the lower part of my left kneecap with an air-nailer last night....making a 24" x 48" x 96" pallet box to haul junk in..... galvanized ring shank.  Fortunately it had already gone through a 2x4 and OSB.  Didn't have enough power left to go deep enough for the rings to stick..... still doesn't feel that great though....arrrrggggghhhhh .... what a day and I think I said a bad word a few times in front of our friend too.... :-\

Tsk-tsk.. Ya' gotta be careful with those dangerous tools. I just can't understand people who shoot themselves with those things; it just sounds so painful.. Me, I shot my dad through the thumb with the 15 gauge finish nailer--I didn't feel a thing. :D

Okay, maybe I felt a little guilt.. It was one of those push-really-hard-just-before-you-shoot-and-hope-the-warped-board-stays-in-place kinda deals. Never push so that the nailer could slip over to your thumb. Pick somebody else's.

Sounds like you had a fun trip. :) Some resourceful tricks there..

Got to admit it is not the smartest thing to do Andrew.  [ouch]

That is the first time I shot myself though Fred did shoot me in the back with one once.

We currently have a group of new friends and returning friends from India/Sacramento and our returning family friend from last time from Palau.  Took them to Yosemite yesterday with our other friends from here.  Had a great time.  Will try to get a few pix up soon.

They all conspired against us and paid for all of the food at the restaurant last night.... wouldn't let us help...

Nice to be appreciated.  We will see them at the church and we get to cook them a potluck dinner afterward.... which reminds me - I better get out to the garden and get some vegetables for it.  :)
