Well --due to travel cost limitations Iwill probably not accept this contract and just tell the owner how they can fix them themselves for only a few cents each -- just make a new one or a few spares.

Oh sure the old I got a plane to catch deal  ::) That plan is worst the screws will pull out way to easy , not enought wood into the threads IMO , YMMV.

Nice try Jonesey ;D Good luck catching that plane , I hear they are fast :o

When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

At the local fall festival a few years back there was a lady that made lots of interesting things from kudzu vines, including drawer pulls.  Probably any green vine could be bent around (say) a piece of 1-1/2" pvc and fastened down while it dried.  Once dry a 3/8" vine would be plenty stiff and strong for a drawer pull.

I have had cabinets that had screws through the door with nuts on the back -- I know - not pretty.

If pre-drilled to the inner diameter of the screw the wood is not too bad about splitting.

I know PEG always knows the best way to do things but there are still a lot of unexplored Mickey Mouse ways left in the world. ;D

I know -- you are going to say explored failed ways eh, PEG. ;D

I don't have to you already did  ;D

The twisted vine thing might work you could bore a hole about the right size and epozy in the ends into the hole . What a lot of messy work that would be .

Some more exploring must be done  ;D Thats a bad idea  ;D
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

John_C

No Epoxy involved.  I envision a board 10" x 6' with a 6' length of PVc running down the middle.  You could fasten one pull every 3" or 4" and set the whole thing out to dry.  After they are dry counter bore the holes an use attractive RH screw to attach them to the drawer.

PEG688

I don't like the exposed screw head even if it is right handed  ;D Thats why I had the holes drilled in my preversion of your idea  ;D

Speaking of screws last week I was hunting a 5MM machine screw , none in town 2 1/2" long , 2" ya  nothin longer . I had the boss check while he was ashore (off the island ) heehehheh ;D Nope nada in town, so i was telling Travis our apprentice type he says " A metric  machine screw ?? Or a wood screw ??

I got a big chuckle outta that , I said " Ya it's Canadian  wood so these regular wood screws won't work ! "  Sad in a way :'( :'( , I've tried to teach him so much , and SO LITTLE has stuck , I wonder why ::) ;D ;D

Sadder yet.  That probably stuck. From now on he'll be looking for special screws for any wood he thinks came from Canada.

The pulls could be clamped in place till dry then fastened from inside the drawer.

I'm fixated on vines lately.  I've been pulling dozens of them out of my trees.  I always thought Tarzan swinging on a vine was bogus, but I'm over 200 pounds and I can't dislodge many of them. I have to pull them down with a come-a-long.   I cut down a 14" diam. pine tree that the pine beetles got. It got hung up in a vine about ten feet off the ground and the vine supported the weight of the tree and resisted my efforts to pull the tree down with the come-a-long.  Soon as I cut it with a saw lashed to a loooooong pole the whole mess came crashing down.

For everybody else m- Peg is not a woman. I caught him on a boating site he link me to using Paul instead of Peg. Now Debbie and I are going to have to stop referring to him as her. There goes my picture of Peg in shorts and sneakers with a reciprocating saw.

...Sorry. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

PEG688

I have devulged that fact a few times , I should change my screen name on WBF , that got twisted around when they had a forum server change . Plastering ones name on the net MTL is not a good thing :-/ :-/ Glenn does it but he's tough as nails and a lil nuts eh  :o ;D

My older  sister's name is Margeret , she goes by Peg , she got to name me and used names to = the PEG intials ;D As the last name worked with the G .

The 688 was a old log in # that worked on ICQ IIRC , totally by chance the #. It was issued.  ;D But it's easy for me to remember.

I think I made that rule didn't I?  I did it just to allow people who have led lives that were much too structured to be able to break out of the mold. ;D

Don't worry, PEG -- I'm not just picking on you -- My wife comes from a military background - in fact they used to call her Sarge-- In fact I think she ordered them to do it. :-?

Now I think I've done it. :-/

Glenn's just jealous because I'm organized  ;)  I was the one that always took care of my stuff & kept my room clean  :-/   I used to get the neighborhood kids together & put on plays & carnivals & play school & stuff.  I was usually older than the rest of the kids...

I tell him "you wouldn't want a nurse taking care of you who doesn't make sure to give you the right medication or didn't pay attention to subtle changes in your condition or couldn't be organized in a busy ER & keep track of everything going on all the time."  8-)

Besides, he'd be lost without me  :) :-* ;D

boy, now we've really drifted off topic...  ::)

Dang PEG -- I figure there are so many ways to find me it doesn't matter.  I'll just go to an undisclosed location. ;D

A little nuts? :-?  I like to refer to it as eccentric.  I was gonna say - that's not what my wife says but that didn't sound good. :-/

I'm sorry to butt in and break up the conversation, but I thought you'd all be waiting with baited breath to see what transpired over our cupboard handles.

Jonesy's mention of metal tubing was the key to our success as Jonni remembered a length of copper water pipe that was sitting up in the garage. I was keen to attack it with my patination technique, so that the cupboard handle supports would match our front door panels (bet no-one else would have that sort of a combination in their home?!) But Jonni was off and running, and I wasn't about to get in the way of a man with a mission.

Here's a photo of cupboard handle No. 1 (not yet oiled). The little brass sunken ringy thingy was a necessity as anything sticking out on this door would mean we can't pull out the corner cupboard fixture.

I can't get over the fact that one little message posted to a group of you folk suddenly gets people in the far corners of the world, sending drawings, suggestions and the odd snide comment! It's as if we all have a little window into each other's lives I feel.

We were just marking time until your return, Cecilia.  Now you know you are one of our favorite people and we will do whatever we can for you. :)

Snide comments -- off color comments --- here? :-?   I better look into that. ::)

Looks great, by the way. :)
