I found the perfect song for Glenn  ::) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKEnVOuOOOE

Was down at the steel company Glenn sub-contracts for, the other day, talking to the owners - you woulda thought Glenn was perfect from all the good things they had to say  8)  A couple friends & I tell our husbands that they are the "perfect man club"  :D  "PMC" for short (instead of PMS)...   :-*

All kiddin aside, he's a pretty good guy.  The owners he's been fixing stuff for said "Glenn can get stuff done that no one else would get away with & they still like him & want him back."

Glenn's reply when I told him that "it's my passive-aggressive attitude."  Like he's always told me, "I won't make you do anything you don't want to do, I'll just make you want to do it."

How do you deal w/a man like that  ???   [waiting]

I'd laugh and think it was funny if it wasn't all true.... [waiting]

All seriousness aside, I guess it's time to move on to another topic.

I got a forklift battery from my brother who let me have it for junk price.  They had to pick it up from the road - possibly a junker lost it in the highway?... anyway no one claimed it so I got it.  It has bad cells but possibly enough extra good ones so I can swap them around and get a 24v battery out of it.  It is made up of 18  2 volt cells.  I finally got time to get it off of my truck.  Weight is over 2800 lbs.

This might store a lot of power.  My brother tested it with a pair of pliers across the cable terminals.... hope he wasn't holding on too tight.  Even with bad cells it melted down his pliers.... he is braver than I am.... [ouch]    [scared]

The cat there just lost her brother to a raccoon we think.  She now has to associate more with people.  The two of them spent a lot of their time together.

Or more crazy?  ???

That's a lot of battery.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

glenn kangiser

I think maybe more crazy [noidea'

I did a few preliminary checks on the battery and from the negative terminal it seems to have 12 volts that is good.  From there on I think I will have to cut the individual 2 volt batteries loose and pick out the good ones and re-pour the lead connections.  If I can  come up with a good 24 volts from it we may be set with a battery for life.

I used to know an old fellow when I was a kid who would take the batteries apart, brush the plates - put in new blotter papers between them if needed and put them back together.  He then re-tarred the tops and they worked great.  For this battery I would attempt that with one or more of the damaged cells that broke when the junker? lost it. Just the top cover broke as near as I can tell without pulling it from the metal case.  I have 3 gallons or so of battery acid.

On another note.. my picture was selected for the local Electronic Newspaper for pix of the day 5-26-11.  Still up as of today and I got a nice thanks from the owner of the paper.

Hey--congrats! Pic has nice colors in it, too..

glenn kangiser

Thanks, Andrew.  It's kinda like getting Brownie Points, but still fun.

I usually sharpen the colors on good pix with Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 but the colors have to be there for it to have a good effect.  I can revert to the original if it was better.  The Free Adobe program was so good few were upgrading to their purchase programs such as Elements I think as they did a survey about it then discontinued it.  You can still find the program and it will still work but is unsupported.  Just a one click Auto Fix.  A couple seconds only on the pix that are worth it.

Well... finally, I now own my bull.  The neighbor lady called while I was out working in the Bay area and said they needed a pad for their ranch hand to park his mobile home on so he could work on their other property.  I told her I would get to it as soon as I got a break form work.  Friday I put work off at a new job until Tuesday and got a few things done.  Yesterday was their day.  They are a couple of hard working kids from local families who farm and he's a ....gasp... cop..... [scared]

I was laying low and it was hard driving that Bobcat with a full face mask so he would not know who I was.... No ... just kidding... He is one of the good ones.  Works as hard and gets as dirty as you and I during his off time....and they like to trade for work ... you know...barter.  That is where the cost of the thing traded equals the value received and on the other half of the trade it is the same situation.

They needed a circle drive and pad for the mobile so I made a long enough pad they could choose between sun and shade.  As I worked I pulled up boulders up to 2000 lbs, so as I had free rein to do what I wanted I started a rock wall with the waste boulders.  I saved all of the topsoil behind the boulders for a garden spot.  I had to fill some areas due to boulders so large I could not dig them out.

I walked them through the work area when I had to stop to clean my fuel line on the Bobcat.  The wife looked at it and said, "How did you build the wall?"  [noidea'

I just made a motion like I was picking up rocks by hand and placing them... don't think she believed that so I told her I was pretty good with the Bobcat.

Got away with that one.  I like to keep the work area clean all of the time and looking pretty good so if the customer happens to come by things still look neat.  I try to keep margins graded and piles of dirt knocked down..... Sassy says ..."Unlike when I am working for us.".... [waiting]

The owner (wife) said, "Well you have earned your bull.  That was way over what we expected."  I told her I felt that I still owed them some.

On leaving the job I told her husband that I made a payment on the bull.  He said "I'd call it even."  I told him I would give them a bit extra next time then.  I like it when both parties of a trade are more than satisfied.  Makes it good for the next time.

Ours, all ours.... we now own the complete herd........ I'm a real cowboy and have the bull to prove it.  :)

They pretty much do the same thing here Glenn.  The farmer will barter labor and exchange for livestock.  Gay bulls don't bring much at the Stock Sales anyway.  rofl

Well now you will have to buy a few more head.  The bull/cow ratio is about 20:1.

BTW don't forget the wormer.  They make Ivomec that you pour down the back but unless they are fairly tame it's hard to do.  Then there is shots which is a real pain.   I would choose Safeguard wormer blocks which are molasses & medication in a block form for them to lick.  Just follow directions.  Cost about $30.

Whitlock

I had a message on my phone a day or so ago telling me that Glenn has "lost it" look at the CP forum.
I just ignored it until this morning. This person must not know that Glenn "lost it" long ago.

Thanks, John.  Whitlock reminded me once.  I needed to be reminded again.  I commissioned Sassy to pick up a block for the cows.

Well, I know this bull is not gay.  He got the job done I'm sure.  Bossy Cow is looking nice and round.

We used to do the wormer thing back before we found EMs. That was many years ago, and we haven't touched commercial wormers since. Our animals have never been healthier.. We give it to them daily in their water. Cows, horses, goats, chickens, rabbits, sheep. We have a harder time keeping sheep healthy, but it's not worm-related.. We think it may be due to a selenium deficiency in our area..

Maybe I need to study up on the EM in relation to worm problems I guess, Andrew.  I am unable to get EM to their water when they are at the spring but a good dose in the ponds could be helpful.  I do put some in their water at the house sometimes.

Got an email from, Off The Grid News.

Some of their stuff is a bit out there and some of it is useful.  Today was a useful one I thought.  Goats are interesting to me for this rough country but keeping them in around here could be a challenge.  Good article and comments after it are informative too.

I am thinking of fencing some of the roughest north brushy area for goats.  They could be a better size for meat and good for milk too.

and, how handy could this be when the grand-kids come up?   [noidea'
