Hi-

I'm thinking I got a shipment of fake James Hardie.

Last year when I ordered the 9 1/4" hardie plank it had a nailing line and logo "embossed" on the top and the top and bottom sides are beveled at a slight angle.  (Cross section is a trapezoid).

Shipment I got last week DOES NOT have the nailing line nor logo and is not beveled.  It came under a plastic hardie pallet covering.

------> Update - just talked to a hardie rep. sounds like my most recent order MAY be older product than what I received last year.  As in the previous version of the product.

As you probably know there is a different Hardi product for northern climates and southern climates (HZ5 and HZ10). Im building in Mississippi and live in Missouri. The Hardi I am using in Mississippi does not have the nailing line. The hardi I bought in Missouri does have it.
I like the version without the line because you can use it either way up, makes for more variation in the grain pattern, and when cuting angles the left over piece can more easily be fitted to the other side of the house.
Might be coinsidence...Paul

So the final answer I got from the hardie rep is....

For only the 9 1/4 size (8" reveal) they changed back to the no nailing line and square edges version... but not for the other sizes.

Hung it... looks just fine.

Do you mean 8 1/4 with 7" reveal? Thats what I'm using and as mentioned the boards I bought in MS do not have the line or taper.

OK, but their answer still doesn't make sense because not only the 9 1/4 is avavilable without the nail line.

To close this one off... hardie rep came out to my place and looked at it.

There was general confusion.

In the end, they offered to replace it.  I had already hung some and didn't want to back track.   The difference in the bevel/angle beween the two types (even on the same side of the house) is something I'd be SHOCKED if someone (other than me) ever noticed.  You really cant even tell.

They said they had change the design of this size between years or something. I'm guessing it was related to, what I can only assume, is a not very common size (9 1/4 w/ 8" reveal).
