Go to www.spokeo.com, type in your name.  I was surprised at the data it had on me.

It has a "privacy" link for unsubscribing.  Being paranoid, I used a throw away email address.

The unsubscribing works in real time too.

I'm actually a little piqued. Under my name they had data about the neighborhood that said our house was in the 200K range, but under K "her" house in the same neighborhood was worth 1M ???  :o  They actually had more info in the personal interests and stuff, on her than on I and I'm the bigger internet user.

There are actually a lot of 'services' on the internet that have a lot of personal info. This one was recently publicized on the news here.

Do we still come up on a paid subscriber search though?

I didn't even show up.  There are many data base services that will remove your name and information with a properly written letter.

MountainDon

Note that you have to do a search with a simplified name; Elmer Fudd instead of Elmer Wabbit Fudd for example.

I think it is already too late to get it off if it is on the net - they have us all - we're doomed.....

Elmer Fudd is listed 26 times.     ::)

I checked my name on this a while back, they had nothing. My PO box white male, late 40's and the rest was incorrect.
I leave little trail though. I cash my checks and pay cash. No credit cards no chedit checks. I have one checking that gets used to pay 1 bill every month and keeps $1.00 balance and another for a debit card for online purchases only. No store club cards. and I list false info when I sign up for anything online.

Peter, the way I took my info off...

Go to the page that has your data.  Copy the link in the address bar of your browser.  At the bottom of the page, I found a small text link titled "privacy".  That allowed my to put my personal link, name, and email in.  They then send you an email that allows you to remove your data.

I used a bogus, throw away yahoo email for that.

Interesting.  They didn't have me (or my doppleganger the rock star, either - a guy in a band someplace with my same name), but they had my wife.  but a lot of the info on her was wrong.  Such as how long she's lived in this house ... but they didn't have any link to a husbands name, even tho it listed her as married (I'm assuming it was her ex they were referring to).

But I feel pretty good they don't have me listed.  ;D  I'm already on way to many lists.  :o

Even if you remove the info from this site "their" sister sites which supply the info to them which will not be removed unless you can determine who they are.  Since most of the info is wrong I will let them think they know me as welll as I do. ;)

I noticed a lot of it comes from Facebook. I just don't understand why people put out that kind of info.

I'm with Don. Facebook is a major time waster. d*

I have found Facebook wonderful to reconnect with high school and college friends.   [cool]  It allows my sons to keep intouch with their high school friends as they move out of state and go to college.  That is very useful.  I also found it useful to post pictures of my cabin building project to share with others.

I do not spend time playing their games or posting my daily mood!

Now you have to do it all over again at www.veromi.net.  Then at www.intelius.com.

Face it; your junk is out there, and there is no pulling it back.

Nothing amazing on spokeo, other than my house is evidently worth a million plus [cool]. I'd sell it for half that, right now!

They didn't have any info on me; none at all  ;D

Well today I did a little searching on my spare time.  Interesting what is available.  You say they don't have anything on me.  Have you "googled" your name.  Nothing then Google your "stage name" often used on various forums.  Yes you might even be there.  No problem right.  Some of the sites even list your profile giving your birth name that I even found on members of this forum. Without knowing some of the members I was able to pick out several just being associated with different forums.  So I guess if you are plugged into the net that they are plugged into you.  No escape in todays society if you "login" and post they GOT YA.  Scarey

So if you are inclined to go looking be prepared to waste a lot of time.  There were over 800,000 entries associated with my name.  I searched 29 pages and still had several hundred thousand to go.  d*

MountainDon

Don't just search for your name. Also search any email addresses you use. Aliases.

If you are a user of many forums you may notice that some (many) will show your user profile to the entire world. This one does not. We only allow members to view CP member profiles when logged in.
