Peter I had seen this before.  I think it is somewhere in Wisconsin.  Good tensil strength on the rope.

The bears in the Jemez love bird seed! One woke me one morning as he ripped the lid of a 5 gallon bucket of wild bird seed.

Those should be posted at every forest campground.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
