How to take a laptop apart

Does anyone know how to take a Sony Vaio PCG-7y2L apart? I was using it and my puppy(90lbs) jumped up in my lap and jerked the power cord and must have broken the solder connection on the DC jack. I have never taken a laptop apart before. I have been trying to find any articles on this, but nothing that fits this one. Anyone had any experience?

And no, I don't have a clue on how to take one apart in a conventional way.

sis if they put it together then it can be taken apart.  Most electronics are assembled with a snap plastic closure on the final assembly. Just have to find a seam in the body that holds the two halves together and start working in all directions until you find the snap tab that holds it tight if you can't find any screws to seperate. Some are hidden with decals or little hidden pockets under design features.  I have taken one cordless phone apart three times that has dropped into the hot tub. Yeah it went back together and is still working.  The volume has alot to be desired but it still works.  Wish I could be of more help.  Moral support is always free.

It's difficult. I always dreaded doing it...but here's what to look for.

First, take out the battery and the hard drive and if removable, the CD/DVD.

They hide screws in the recesses. Leave the covers off.

Look on the bottom for screw holes. The take apart screws usually (But not always) have an arrow molded in the case.

After you have most out, there will still be one or two that you didn't get. Just keep looking.

When all the screws are out, the real fun starts. Plastic clips. Just gently lift the case and try to tell what's holding and where. A small knife to GENTLY probe with is helpful.

After you find all the points where it is clipped, look carefully for Ribbon cables and wires. Reverse to assemble and may the Lord be with you!

Many of the computers hook the cord plug right to the mother board and they break easily.  I have 3 HP's with the same problem.

Find your model and it says manuals at the left side.  May not be a service manual though.

Thats what I thought to till remembered she is a transplant to Arkansas and not a native!!! The locals are a bit more primitive

If I don't get it fixed, I just may let one of the good old boys run over it with their truck or shoot it.  The laptop has considerable amount of my business programs on it. Too cheap to take it in.

After I left Civil Engineering, I went and became a computer tech(nerd). I troubleshooted printed circuit boards to the component level. Never took a laptop apart, always desktops, towers and servers. Thanks everyone for the help, I will resort to the old way, keep removing things till something gives. It will either get fixed or I will take a shotgun to it.
