Starting up the 2016 edition.
Spent December and the first week of January visiting dad in Ontario so got nothing accomplished cabin wise over Christmas other than spending $$$$$ on supplies while down in the South.
The first time out to the property this year was only a few weeks ago now. I'm happy to say the cabin is still standing and isn't full of snow.  ;D
I've been out a few times now packing down and grooming the trail from the ice road to the cabin getting it ready to haul in this years materials.

Two weeks ago I went out to the cabin with my buddy to measure up the windows for ordering.
I just got the costing today and am more than happy. My buddy manages one of our glass shops here in town so I got the family deal.  :)
I had him price me out two different versions of my windows. One being 2 tone frames (hunter green outside and tan inside and the other straight tan inside and out. I didn't realize that vinyl windows only come in two colours white and tan. Any other colour has to be painted. This made my first choice the two tone, a lot more $$$$ than the tan.

I have a total of 13 windows going into this cabin and 4 of them are 5'X8'.
The windows are double glazed (don't need triple not living in it full time) and because I'm ordering at this time of year I get free low E and argon gas.

The two tone windows came out to $8,500 including tax, with my deep discount and the tan only version (the ones I'm buying) came out to $6,100 including tax.  [cool]

The should be here in mid April and I will run them out to the cabin before the ice melts.

Windows have been ordered along with another pile of wood, screws, joist hangers etc.
More trail work needs to be done before I start hauling materials out to the cabin again.
I've got 6 or 7 weeks of vacation to use again this year so will be living the dream again this year.  :)

Sounds like fun, but looks a little cold for me.   [cool]

Lumber was delivered today.  :)
Now I just need to haul it out to the cabin.
At least it's just a fraction of last years order.

Wonderful.  Nice that your building season has come around again.

I thought there would be more snow!  Please include some pictures of the materials move, to help us put our own build issues into perspective.  Have fun, and stay safe.

Here are some of last years big move.
This year is nothing compared to that.   ;D

Got the lumber loaded on the trailer today.
Man I have been too lazy since last fall and am paying for it now.
Every muscle in my body is telling me I should have done something besides drink rum and watch hockey for the last 4 months!!!!   :)
I will get it out to the cabin next weekend. It's a 4 day long weekend for me due to the Easter holiday.  [cool]

A couple of weeks worth of updates.
Some good and some bad.

Well today didn't go exactly as planned. Got my doors, couches and these two windows up to the cabin. While taking these windows up I going a bit too slow and got stuck at the last section of my hill and spun the track and buried the sled. Ended up catching a piece of gravel with the track and it hit my rad and put a hole in it.
Day over!!!!

Tomorrow I'll have to figure out hot to get the rad out of my sled and hopefully it can be welded up.

Have to borrow a buddies sled next week and get my windows in before it's too late.

Time for rum and hockey!!!

Ordered up a new rad for the sled @ lunch today.
Not totally insane price either @ $350.
Now the fun part. Seems I was right in assuming you have to completely disassemble the sled to replace it.  :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!:

The shop says it's 16 hrs labour.
Glad I know how to do things for myself.
Even the motor has to be removed to get the thing out.

Borrowed a buddies sled and got my windows out to the cabin and safely stowed until I can get them installed. The main access point is getting sloppy with melt and mud but my other access point is still mint. Went in that way and came out the regular way. The alternate route is much smoother and will probably good for a couple of weeks still.
The ice on the lake is still perfect and there is no melting on it as yet. The snow melted and packed with the 3 days of warm weather earlier in the week but that makes it easier to get around.

No issues getting from the ice road to the shore by the cabin this week.
Last week the snow was still thigh deep but this week maybe a few inches.

The smaller windows all stowed inside.

The big and heavy ones are outside.

Lost a good chunk of the snow up by the cabin with the warm up this past week.

Looking good!  I guess you have already looked into having a radiator shop fix the old radiator in place? Probably too much damage? Dark rum I hope!
I think the Nissan coupe headlight change requires the bumper and part of the radiator to be removed if that helps. Summer is coming!!

Once I get it out I'll see if it's worth fixing, but it looks pretty beat up.
The rock was so sharp it actually punched a hole through the tunnel too.
Will have to fix it up while it's apart.

Yes, definitely amber/dark rum goes in this temple!!!
   [rofl2]
And none of that disgusting spiced crap!!!   ::)

Why would someone put spice in dark rum? It just needs ice at a minimum!

... and in a pinch ya' can do w/o that.    ;)
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Sorry but back in the day me and the Captain had plenty of good times together, and back then I never even realized why they called it spiced... haven't had a drink in nearly 20 years so I won't be trying it again.  It was great back then... or at least it was cheap for a dark rum.

EWWW!!!
That stuff sucks!!!!
This on the other hand is nectar of the Gods!!!!   :)

What is good in your teens while earning $300 a month is one thing, now that we've "matured" at least age and salary wise I am sure my tastes would have also matured had I still been a drinker.

We lived down there for 6 months on the boat and in 1995 the drinking water cost more than Flor de cana. I am not sure they really aged it for 4 years. They said they did :-\

Finally made it back to the lake.
Had to do a little work on the truck and boat yesterday.
Put a little more bling on the Merc.  ;D

Got the new dock section framing done and the dock installed.
Will install the decking next weekend.
The good news is the lake is up about 2 feet from last fall.
Last years shoreline dock mounts are now under a foot of water.
Tons of water under the dock now with it 16 feet further out.
There's close to 7 feet at the end of the dock and it is chest deep at the back end.    :)

The summer building season has ended for another year.  :(
Took the dock out a week and a half ago. I got a pretty decent amount of work done and emptied my bank account a lot more as well.
All my interior partition walls are framed and the loft floor is almost complete (had to leave a bit so I could reframe for a new bigger entry door).

After getting the interior framing done the windows went in.

Out the master bedroom window

Out the loft window.

Out the dining room window.

The front wall of glass. :)

Built the deck and the roof over it in between window work.

Got the roofing underlay on as well.

Also got the crawl space doors installed.

Finished off the Tyvek and the bulk of the sheathing that needed to be done. Just have the pieces at the bottom that will have to be scribed.

I have my roofing and siding ready to be hauled out to the cabin as soon as the ice road goes in.

This was just before the bottom windows went in.
Need to get a shot with them in when I remember.
The view doesn't suck.

Sweet view! Be safe up on that roof with the standing seam. Nice to have a rope and harness.
At least you do not have guy's blowing up dynamite looking for gold while you are installing the metal. Been there.... >:(
