OK I know a MW isn't something most think of when talking about off-grid living but I'm VERY CLOSE to living off-grid at my cabin (if my job interview goes well -- 2nd one -- then I WILL be living at the cabin) and I'm now starting to think about the things I'll need.  One of those is a small microwave oven to reheat meals with as I'll be alone 90% of the time and cooking for one -- so I'll eat a lot of left overs.

I've seen 600 watt ovens and 700-950 watt ones also.  Anyone have experience with these little guys and how long it takes to heat foods versus a 1000 watt oven?  Thoughts on using them with pure sine inverters on an 880ah battery bank?

Eric I have a 700 watt but a really small battery bank and mine does a number on it.  Can't attest to how long it takes it to warm food but liquids it does about the same as the one at home (1000).  I generally leave it unplugged when not using to eliminate that clock drain.

How small is the bank?  I have 880ah

I believe he's at about 200AH on a 48V system

Near as I can tell it is about 220ah.  Yeah I need more storage but thought I would go small for the learning process so I wouldn't kill more expensive.   Tried to reply earlier but couldn't get the site.

I'm looking at reconfiguring my bank to 24v which would take me to 440ah but the watts avail would be the same.

I multiply the times I know work at home by 1.5 and get about the same results in the smaller one at the cabin. 1100 watts at home 600 in the cabin.

One thing to remember when talking about m-wave wattage is that the figure you see on the box is the cooking power. Not the wattage needed to operate the unit.  Our 600 watt uses 1100 watts when operating.

And some m-waves do not like square wave at all; make noise but no heat.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Thanks Don,  that's why I'm going to pure sine wave now.
