Neat,

I couldn't find the size. What would you guess - 12' wide? Is this about the size of the 12x18 Little House? Maybe closer to 10x14?

The inside of that is nicer than my apartment..   :(

And probably more functional too!  That is pretty cool.
just spent a few days building a website, and didn't know that it could be so physically taxing to sit and do nothing all day!

On the order of the San Francisco earthquake houses, now considered collector's items.  They too were movable.

Nice.

Very nice.  Can't wait to see what the two-bedroom version looks like.

These are really suburb little houses. Might be a bit tight for a person in a wheelchair but they are beautifully thought out.  Even the drawings are little works of art.  I especially like the big front porch and the large generous windows.  And I think its particularly nice that they look like they belong in New Orleans., obviously based on historical and vernacular styles.

Mark, you are correct. There are many houses of the same look and size in New Orleans.
They are called shot gun houses.

Here is some more good reading from the same web site.

These are nice little designs. It is amazing how close they are to the Builder's Cottage and Little House plans here on the CountryPlans site. Any of the floorplans here could be dropped into the 14x24 version (shorten it 2' if you want).

Personally I prefer the single rafter roof (it looks like scissors trusses are used in many of the Katrina designs). It gives you room for a loft and, with the higher sidewall of the Enchilada plans, a really usable sleeping/office/storage area above.

The Katrina designs have a deeper porch in keeping with the tradition of New Orleans (at least the pre-AC tradition).

The current (March 2006) issue of Coastal Contractor ( http://www.coastalcontractor.net) has a short article discussing the design of the Katrina Cottage...  pdf warning...

What would be nice is to have one of the SIP manufacturing companies prefab the house. It wouldn't take a week to put up an entire neighborhood. That way each trade could follow behind the other.

The places would be very energy efficient.

just my 2 cents  ;D

Here are some of the floor plans from her site.  All could be built from  The Little House Plans Wonder if that's where she got her ideas?
