When I install my ceiling fan I would like to have the light work off three way switches so I can turn the light on from the front door or from the mud room door.  I would also like to put the fan control in another location on a different wall then my light switches.  Is it possible to separate the fan control from the light control? If so how hard is it to do?

Off hand I don't recall how our home ceiling fans wiring was set up, although I did install a separate switch for the fan and the light. So judging by that I'd think it should be possible to do what you want to do. But I'd have to look at the wiring diagram for the unit.

How about a ceiling fan with a remote control? The ones I've seen control light and fan.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

I had done just that at my cabin with the lights.  In retrospect I wish I had done the same with the fan.  I just used 3-way switches at the two locations. Can it be done with yours?  As Don stated it depends on the model fan and how recent it is. Some of the older fans only hd a single wire that operated both features. Most new fans have a seperate wire for each function.

You can do this multiple ways, the easiest is to run power from the panel to the fan box, then run your switch loops off that line

If the fan has a single wire, trace it until it splits and separate the wires for the light and the fan.
