Has a toasted inverter board. 2 big capacitors have fried themselves off the board, board is potted and I doubt I'll be able to dig it out without damaging a SMD component on the board

New board is $533, new generator is $579. Brand new generator, not worth fixing...

So, what would you do with an unregulated 3-phase alternator hooked to a 125CC engine  ???  I would prefer to use it as a generator, but building a MPPT inverter with stepper motor control for the throttle is a little over my head.

What are the power output ratings of the inverter section? More or less just curious but maybe the numbers will help something click. ???

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

The unit is a generac ix2000. The stator wires are relatively thin so I'm assuming the input voltage to the inverter section is fairly high

Yikes.  Maybe rectify it to DC, run it wide open, and feed it into a Vicor DC / DC power supply to get regulated 12, 24 or 48V output to charge a heavy battery bank?

Or...
Feed it to a heavy duty UPS for AC.
I picked up a bunch of them for $5.00 each from county surplus.
