The door I want to buy ad HD only comes in a 2 x 4 wall size.  They do sell an extention jam set for the door to become a 2 x 6 wall size door.  Has anyone used that type of door extention and how did it work out?

Thanks

They probably do but it is hard to tell what kind of a price they want.   I have extended several doors using pine strips and either a biscuit joiner or a Kreg pocket jig.  Just want to make sure that the edge showing is flat with the factory .   The inside ( side against the framing) is not so important.

I step each trim 1/8-1/4" when adding an extension jamb or a casing. I't easier than trying to align something flush and creates another "shadow line". An E jamb for a door is properly attached to the outside, with a threshold extension on an exterior door. This allows the hinge knuckles to clear on the inside so the door can swing fully open.

Another point Don if it is a pre-hung the strike plate and lock is now not where it should be in respect to it's original position and some allowance has to take place in that respect.

My biggest concern was the metal threshold.  The kit that HD sells also extends that and it seems to clip on and looks like it will remain flush.  It only costs about $25.00

I saw some jam extenders at home depot a couple of days ago on clearance for 9.97.  I got some for my doors.

Extend the jamb on the interior side of the door . . .    As Don mentioned-Set back the extension about 1/4" . . .    Works well on both hinge and door strike sides . . .

I just ripped clear pine to fill the void.   Later primed and painted.
