Glenn likes big steam engines, heavy machinery and sawmills. Thought you guys might get a kick out of place if you haven't seen it before.

[cool]  Andrew.  Might be a bit modern for Glenn. ;)

LOL, how about that, I was looking at that mill earlier this evening, neat stuff.

Very cool, Andrew and yes - a bit modern for me but still steam powered.

It is about 40 miles from where I grew up... if I did.... [noidea'

I had to look up a video of it in operation... Click the pix for the video

Here is my granddad's sawmill in Oregon on the Homestead at Widow Creek, Rose Lodge, Oregon around 1910.

My dad used to stoke the boiler to keep the mill running.  One day the governor broke and things got exciting for a bit.  The governor is the thing that spins around on the top regulating the steam pressure that is allowed into the engine.  A runaway steam engine could over-speed breaking the massive cast iron flywheels and possibly killing someone as well as destroying the mill.

The guys in the pix are a bunch of Oregon outlaws.... mostly all my relatives - grandpa and brothers.

The people... not the horses....though they were family horses too..... [waiting]

Cool stuff ....thanks again, Andrew.

Hmmm... I might be having nightmares about runaway steam engines now.

I just seems really cool to have the whole mill powered by the scraps of the logs coming in. Seems like an efficient way to do work..
