(Guardian, February 20), George Monbiot accuses members of the 9/11 truth movement of being "morons" and "idiots" who believe in "magic." Having in his previous attack---"A 9/11 conspiracy virus is sweeping the world," Guardian, February 6---called me this movement's "high priest," he now describes my 9/11 writing as a "concatenation of ill-attested nonsense."

If my books are moronic nonsense, then people who have endorsed them must be morons. Would Monbiot really wish to apply this label to Michel Chossudovsky, Richard Falk, Ray McGovern, Michael Meacher, John McMurtry, Marcus Raskin, Rosemary Ruether, Howard Zinn, and the late Rev. William Sloane Coffin, who, after a stint in the CIA, became one of America's leading civil rights, anti-war, and anti-nuclear activists?

If anyone who believes that 9/11 was an inside job is by definition an idiot, then Moncbiot would have to sling that label at Colonel Robert Bowman, former head of the U.S. "Star Wars" program; Andreas von Bülow, former State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry of Defense; former CIA analysts Bill Christison and Robert David Steele; former Scientific American columnist A. K. Dewdney; General Leonid Ivashov, former chief of staff of the Russian armed forces; Colonel Ronald D. Ray, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense; all the members of Scholars for 9/11 Truth, Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice, Veterans for 9/11 Truth, and Pilots for 9/11 Truth; and most of the individuals listed under "Professors Question 9/11" on the "Patriots Question 9/11" website.

One of the reasons these people reject the government's conspiracy theory is that, if they were to accept the official account of the destruction of the World Trade Centre, they would need to affirm magical beliefs. A few examples:

The Twin Towers came straight down, which means that each building's 287 steel columns all had to fail simultaneously; to believe this could happen without explosives is to believe in magic.

At the onset of each tower's collapse, steel beams were ejected out as far as 600 feet; to believe that these horizontal ejections could be explained by gravitational energy, which is vertical, is to believe in magic.

Virtually all of the concrete in the towers was pulverized into extremely fine dust particles; to believe that fire plus gravity could have done this is to believe in magic.

WTC 7 and the towers came down at virtually free-fall speed, meaning that the lower floors, with all their steel and concrete, provided no resistance to the upper floors; to believe this could happen without explosives is to believe in magic.

Pools of molten metal were found under each building. Because steel does not begin to melt until it reaches about 1,540°C and yet the fires could not have gotten over 1000°C, to accept the fire theory is to believe in magic.

Monbiot, regarding the 9/11 truth movement's conspiracy theory as a wrong-headed distraction, fails to see that the obviously false and truly distracting conspiracy theory is the official 9/11 myth, which has been used to justify imperial wars and increased militarism, thereby distracting attention from global apartheid and the ecological crisis. We focus on the 9/11 myth because, until it is exposed, getting our governments to focus wholeheartedly on the truly urgent issues of our time will be impossible.

Congress was specific in its finding against the 1941 White House: Kimmel and Short were cut off from the intelligence pipeline that located Japanese forces advancing on Hawaii. Then, after the successful Japanese raid, both commanders were relieved of their commands, blamed for failing to ward off the attack, and demoted in rank.

True -- they found the "hijackers" who were not on any passenger list - to be mostly Saudi's.  Why did we then go out and attack Afghanistan?...then Iraq, who Bush admitted had nothing to do with 9/11 in public when questioned.

We knew the so called hijackers were mostly Saudi's immediately.  Motivation to attack other places was likely because they were with us.   "Either your with us or against us." (W)

Why did a possible US/Brit double agent go through Pakistan to get $100.000.00 to Atta?

Such a war would have been far more justifiable than Afghanistan or Iraq. No country was more responsible than Pakistan for 9/11. Pakistan hosted Al Qaeda's headquarters in Kashmir. Most of its training camps were in Kashmir and Pakistan's Tribal Areas--not Afghanistan. On July 22, 2004, The Guardian reported that General Mahmoud Ahmed, chief of the ISI under Musharraf, had sent $100,000 to Mohammed Atta, the lead 9/11 hijacker. The Wall Street Journal confirmed that Pakistani intelligence had financed 9/11, but the 9/11 Commission decided not to investigate our "strategic ally in the war on terrorism."

Back in 2004 or 2005 I remember hearing radio ads paid for by Saudi Arabia. The ads proclaimed how much a friend the kingdom was to the US and how they wanted to help us not hurt us. That's something I always wondered about...we go around fighting wars for freedom and democracy but we protect Saudi Arabia which is a monarcy not democracy

The family of the number one suspect in this horrible attack on America, were not only allowed to leave the country, but were allowed to leave with assistance by our government, and without being questioned by the FBI.

The FBI, in its defense, were not permitted to keep the Bin Ladens in the country. They were not permitted to ask if they knew anything about the attacks. They were not permitted to ask if they knew where Osama was. George Bush wouldn't allow it.

Why? He was 'worried about their safety.'

Robert Baer former case officer with the CIA wrote a book entitled Sleeping With The Devil. In the book he says that George Sr. calls the Saudi prince Bandar Bush.

Prince Bandar invests in the Carlyle Group. He attended Barbara Bush's 75th birthday party. He donated one million dollars to the George Bush Presidential Library And Museum. He also donated another one million dollars to Barbara Bush's literacy program.

*When the ballot counting in Florida was causing all kinds of problems for George W. Bush, Prince Bandar sent the royal family lawyer - also George Jr.'s lawyer, James Baker - into Florida to "direct the battle for the ballots."

Baker's firm also went to bat for the Saudi royal empire to try and protect them from all the lawsuits being filed by the families of 9/11.

*Attempts to dig deeper into Saudi Arabia's role in the attacks, were blocked by George W.

*When Congress released its own investigation into 9/11, George W. "blacked out" 28 pages that had to do with the Saudis.

*Two nights after the attack, (according to The New Yorker), George W. went out on the Truman Balcony of the White House. He went out to smoke a cigar and unwind. He asked one close friend to join him. Who was it? Prince Bandar, or "Bandar Bush," as George Sr. calls him.

George W. told Bandar that if the U.S. couldn't get any of the men involved in the attacks to cooperate, then he would turn the men over to Bandar. Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia, home to fifteen of the nineteen hijackers.

Mr. Silverstein, who must have known about the asbestos problem, made a down-payment of $124 million on this $3.2 billion complex, and promptly insured it for $3.6 billion. He also covered the complex against "terrorist attacks". In the contract Mr. Silverstein was also specifically given the right to rebuild the structures if they were destroyed. Mr. Silverstein's first order of business as the new owner was to change the company responsible for the security of the complex. The new security company he hired was Securacom (now Stratasec). George W. Bush's brother, Marvin Bush, was on its board of directors, and Marvin's cousin, Wirt Walker III, was its CEO. According to public records, not only did Securacom provide electronic security for the World Trade Center, it also covered Dulles International Airport and United Airlines - two key players in the 9/11 attacks. Following the attacks, Mr. Silverstein filed two insurance claims for the maximum amount
of the policy ($7.2B), based on the two — in Mr. Silverstein's view — separate attacks. The insurance company, Swiss Re, paid Mr. Silverstein $4.6 Billion, still a princely return on a relatively paltry investment of $124 million. Incidentally, it's worth noting that one of Mr. Silverstein's closest friends, a person with whom it's said he speaks almost daily by phone, is none other than former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
