Sassy,

Yeah, I was the same way when I was their age. Didn't understand any of it! :)

Your underground cabin is beautiful, you can tell that you all are creative. What a nice place to wake up everyday! Such a blessing!

Hey there. Just an update. We had planned to have the roof on by now, but we had some
rainy weather.  :-/  But, it will be on soon!

We did get the insulation board on and the wrap. Check it out!  :D

I will be posting more pictures soon!! :)

I've never understood building on piers and having the floor above grade with a crawl space.  I like having the earth tucked around me...the floor below the frost line.

Is there a special reason why people build on a deck with the necessary underfloor insulation/and crawl space?  I'm confused.

Nice looking family, by the way.

That's a good question, Bruce -- as earth dwellers it may be beyond our capacity to understand.

:)  We ARE still alive here in the Ozarks!

We have the roof on, the loft and bedroom upstairs electricity ran and insulation, and working on getting the downstairs done this week. We went ahead and put up our Christmas tree upstairs. That was fun!

Good to see you are making progress, Billie.

Sure, PEG -- you can blame it on me -- it's OK.  I'm tough.  I can handle it. :-/ ;D

Besides that I understand he can press 100,000 pounds.

I just love reading these older posts. c*

:) Well, we are still alive here in the Ozarks! We had some set backs though. My husband, who is doing a majority of the work got hit by a car in Feb. and recently almost cut his ear off, fixing our daughters' car. Poor guy, can't catch a break! Both our daughters are going off to college in August. (financial set~backs as well!!) So, it will be just our 15 year old son, and the two of us living here for the most part.

We do have some things accomplished. The inside is almost ready to live in. We are getting ready to do the plumbing, and finish a lot of little things inside, then our focus will be to get our porch done so we can get the siding on the outside before the weather gets bad in the fall.

The stairs and railing are not done yet, what is there is temporary. You can't see the kitchen in these pics, but the cabinets are in, and the tile countertops are started. The bar is not there yet though. I am putting tile down in the kitchen and we are doing wood floors throughout the rest of the house.

I will take better pictures soon and get them on here.

Sorry it has taken so long for an update. We are getting closer!!

It looks fantastic!  If that is just plywood on the floor, has it been coated?  If it isn't plywood, what is it?  I would like to do something similar in our place until we get wood floors.

Also, sorry to hear about your husband.  I hope he's better.

Looks great Billie.  Careful now -- looking forward to seeing more of your project.

Phalynx~~Hey there. Yes, it is plywood. We put it on top of the subfloor, just as an underlayment. We plan on using 3/4" tongue-in-groove oak over this plywood. It's a smooth finish 1/4" plywood (birch). It was about $10 a sheet.

glenn~~ Thanks! He's reading this with me, maybe he will listen about being careful!! I need to keep him around a little while longer!! lol (he said at least to finish the house!! ha ha)

Edit to Add: Billie, after your humorous remark above things kind of went all to heck here. d*

The good thing is he's OK and able to joke about it.  There is not much excuse for what follows here except the ability too humor ourselves and learn from our mistakes and those of others - to hopefully be able to sidestep the next problems and live to try another day.  :)

Like any of us are real careful, but we need to try. :)

I really like the diagonal layout of the pine around the window too.

(Hold onto the "Do not resuscitate" order until he's finished, Billie.)  ::)

...and make sure the life insurance policy is paid up.  d*

I know -- not funny. :(

If you want to throw some humor at it, try this:

He was thinking about a new car.  He wasn't sure which one until it finally hit him..

:)

Sorry, I hope he can make light of it now.  If not, Glenn made that joke, not me.. :)

glenn kangiser

Make light of it-- how could he? hmm ...cars are heavy.

Phalynx, I think we may get into deep doo-doo here if we don't behave. [scared]

We may crossing the line (without looking both ways)!!  :D

Sassy

 d* d*  you guys....

Beautiful work - you've really done a wonderful job on the cabin!  Hope the rest of your adventure is trouble & accident free  :)

You will know the truth & the truth will set you free

glenn kangiser

I hope we don't ...run over... the number of semi-humorous wise cracks we are allowed before Billie has to get after us. ::)

True, I don't want to be "grilled" by her if these aren't remotely funny.

glenn kangiser

You are right.  That could be a ...smashing blow... to our egos. [crz]

Perhaps other members will lend us an ear when we offer safety reminders. ::)

Man -- I hope Billie and husband have a good sense of humor -- or maybe as bad as ours. d*

Ear Ye, Ear Ye, I don't think I can "cut up" much more.  I am running low on "not so quick" comebacks.  It's a dangerous world out there.  You shouldn't play "in the hood"...

glenn kangiser

I also am afraid I may have to ...stop.  This is going to be hard to ...recover from.  I hope we aren't ...wrecking Billie's thread and inducing ...trauma with these bad remarks. d*

We should probably quit this and go back to our day jobs.

Billie's floor looks great as is.  I "hear" her husband has "earmarked" some funds for a nice wood floor to go on top.

On another note, strange things happen when you work on Mike Tyson's car......   come on... think about it..... c*

glenn kangiser

OK -- I'll bite...You gonna tell me? hmm

BAD!!!!!!!!!! Glenn,  BAD!!!

Ok, ok... last one, I promise (on this post) :)

I am glad he didn't actually cut his ear off.  His daughter would have surely got an "ear full"

glenn kangiser

I have to quit, Phalynx.  I don't want to but the voices in my head just won't hear of it any more. [crz]
