THX for the reply the joists will be No.2 grade spruce  on 16" centers and yes while sitting on the treated beams the actual span would be 15' 1".  Using the calculator it tells me I am good up the 15' 5". So it looks like I will be good to go.  The reason the 6x6 beams are stacked is simply to elevate the floor off the ground and they will be lag bolted together throughout the span of the beams and the corners will have 3" angle iron on the inside lag bolted to the beams.  Is this sufficient bracing or is there a better method?

what about those pin foundation systems Ive read about them on this site.

I did have a peek at the system and it looks like it would work but I would have to drive the pins to 8 feet to get below the frost line.  I do not think I could pound it down that far and god for bid you hit a rock at 6 feet.

Do a search on shallow frost protected footings

Well after a lot of planning/hauling/building I managed to get my shack up with the help of my brother and dad.  We pre-fabbed most of the walls and cut the rafters and plywood all to size at home before we hauled it 4 hrs north set it up.  Lucky my old man is retired and lives for building stuff like this and I thank him for making sure it all fit snuggly together as it did.  Only problem I had was I left some bags of insulation out between work trips and a bear decided to rip it apart. Next trip up is for hunting but I will finish up the facia and wrap it in Tyvek for the winter.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
