Just came back from putting in the foundation.  The materials are coming in by barge in the next few weeks.

Where are you building? That view is awesome!

Nevada_Mike

I am building on Prince of Wales island in Southeast Alaska. The town is called Coffman Cove. The view is looking over the inside passage and when the clouds are not in the way snow covered mountains are in view along with wales etc. For reference Ketchikan Alaska is across the passage to the right about 50 miles.

Another question:

How in the world did you get there....you're so lucky....is property $$$$$$$?

Thanks for sharing your progresss....you're off to a good start....

Exciting!

And definitely deep in the woods.

Materials coming in by barge.  Hmmm.  Is the concrete plant local?

Nevada_Mike

The plant is 2 hours away.  The "grey gold' arrived wet wet wet. I don't need to tell you that it was expensive.  The locals thought I was crazy for not just using a post and pier. I will admit they are obviously smarter than me on local building best practices.

Might one ask what such a property costs? :)

Here is a link.  Go to sales - South East - Cedar Grove. 15-70K. Let me know if you have questions.

Another good link is:

www.dnr.state.ak.us/landsale

The Department of Natural Resources has parcels of land all over Alaska available for sale at pretty resonalble prices, and they will finance with a 5% down payment (no credit check -- so long as you haven't wronged DNR in the past 3 years your pretty much in).

We are actually just about to come out with our 2005 land brochure which includes a parcel in Coffman Cove, although the appraised price escapes me at the moment.  This sale (a sealed bid auction) is only open to AK residents, but whatever doesn't sell goes for sale over the counter to anyone.

Well, for once I can contribute to this site (something other than a question that is...)

Man...you guys are making me miss AK.  I went to UAF for a semester (left when my brother died), and I sooooooo miss it.  Kind of hard to uproot now that I have a wife and two kids, so the most I can hope for is a vacation there.

Here is the foundation that i used.
