I'm not sure if this is the right category for this post, if it isn't, please relocate it Mods.

I've been looking for the plans for the Family Circle Bolt-together house designed by Jeff Milstein. Sadly, I haven't been able to find them online, which is surprising in this internet age we inhabit. I saw an article today in the NYT about one of these houses that just sold, and figured I would look anew. So far, without any luck.
I have specific reasons for looking for those plans, and don't need links to anything else, no matter how well meaning.
If you have a set of the plans, or a copy of a set of the original plans, or even a link to a place I can download or purchase a copy of the original plans, without purchasing something else I have absolutely no interest in buying, please let me know.
Thank you.

That's a link to a site where they try to get you to pay $300 for the plans. I find it hard to believe any legitimate company would do that. Do you have any information about getting the plans that doesn't involve paying someone $300 for them?
I really can't believe these are so hard to find.

I would also do my best to try to find them for free, but I am confused that you find it hard to believe that a company would try to make money?  Its only $300, unfortunately not much in todays world....

Anyway, my only thought on how to get them for free beyond the internet is maybe a library?  Good luck..

They were $4 when they were first issued. The architect who created them allowed someone to share them. That person decided to use them to sell some plans that there is very little interest in. That's not what I call ethical, and likely not what the architect had in mind. When they first got hold of them, they offered them if you purchased three months of a membership in some home building club for $30. That's closer to reasonable. I don't find it hard to believe that a company would try to make money, I find it hard to believe that someone would try to use them to sell something that apparently few people are interested in. I have no issue with paying a fair price for them. Paying someone who had nothing to do with their creation and got them free almost $300 is something else. It's like someone got a free chicken, and offers to give it away. But to get the free chicken, you need to buy 18 ducks, whether or not you want 18 ducks. If you describe this to most people, they will tell you it sounds like a scam.

Hi Motovista,

Here at CountryPlans-evil-mega-corp we do everything possible to scam our users, haha!

Seriously though, your take is funny because from this end (running this little family business) it feels like just the opposite: spending a ton of time avoiding spam/scam emails, forum attacks, calls, etc. etc.

Keeping this thing up and running, and not buried in spam, for all these years requires work. We're grateful to Jeff for allowing us to offer the plans and help support the site and ultimately: all the awesome long-time users, so their great stories and knowledge can live on and help other DIY builders for years to come.

If you really need the plans for some reason (maybe you're an educator/non-profit/ having financial hardship) just send us a message at questions@countryplans.com
We're happy to help

Why not just ask the Raabes?  I doubt he's making a killing selling $300 plans to a handful of DIY people, which is rare enough these days especially now that most places are regulated into oblivion.

FWIW the dude got started in the peace corps for god sake, living in Kurdi gunds of Rojhilat probably surviving off of naan, chai, and cheese.  I've lived with those people, I don't think the scamming sort would last 2 years out there, part of the reason why I was attracted to Mr. Raabe's plans in the first place.

The guy has never contributed to this forum and then comes on complaining that the owners are trying to make a little bit of money.  I will never fault someone for trying to make a living, but I will fault someone for trying to get something free without being willing to contribute/work....I think its called being entitled, but what do I know....

Nobody said I wanted the  plans for free. I am willing to pay for the cost of reproduction, shipping and whatever other profit the owner requires. What I take umbrage at is being required to purchase something I have no interest in, for considerably more money, in order to get them for free. At one point, they were available on a site that either became this site, merged with this site, or was acquired by the site. There, they could be "purchased" for about $30. Were that still the case, I would have them by now, and so would anyone else who wanted them and thought $30 was fair. You likely need to get a dictionary out and look up the word "entitled," because wanting to pay for something is likely not the definition of that word. And if someone has no interest in what you are doing, but came here specifically because every search for a particular item that person wants ends here, that would preclude long term participation, wouldn't it?
I will contact Mr. Raabe, and if does indeed make the complete plans available for a reasonable sum, come back to this forum and polish off a very large serving of crow.

The website says if you buy any of their house plans you can get them, so it seems that the cheapeast way is for you to buy the little house plans for 225$ and they will send you the plans you want.

Now I dont' fault you for trying to get them cheaper, but don't be upset that they want to make money.  They are trying to run a small business which is becoming tougher with every passing year.

haha...I love crow so look forward to it!   Seriously though don't be offended by my comments, i'm just a guy who understands how difficult it is to run a small business...
