A cool little snake, John.  :)

Our most common snake is the Rattle Snake.... Quite a few of them.... so we always have a quick look to see what they are when we see one of our squirmy little friends.   [noidea'

Not too fond of snakes myself although I used to catch them when I was a kid -- mostly garter snakes or as we called them 'gardeners'

The farm has a healthy population of black rat snakes that get at least 6 feet (we call him Zeke he is identifiable by his clipped off tail from my brush hog) He likes to climb trees too

They are agressive if cornered and will bite but not poisonous

We permanently relocated one that was trying to go into the house I have pic somewhere I think.

Going up there this weekend to cut some grass and pick mushrooms although I think the morels are done  :(

Often, our ignorance is not as great as our reluctance to act on what we know.

Our gopher population seems to insure a good population of Rattlesnakes and I don't think we will get rid of enough gophers to thin out the snakes.  No food - no snakes but we have plenty of food.

Just found about a 3 foot or more skin on the rocks by the driveway. Guess the former owner is near sporting a brand new suit... [waiting]

We have had an explosion in the gopher, mole, and ground hog population lately. How do you get rid of the cussed things? My yard is rippled and lumpy from them.It is causing me to tear up my riding mower when I sink up in their holes and tunnels.  >:(

This is my weapon of choice, Ben.  I don't have one but want one.  Maybe I will build one.  [waiting]

This is so wrong , on so many levels, where's the fair chase, the man against critter level playing field ??

Thing of the way the critters die !!

Looks damned effective!!   A air charge??   Sort of like a spud gun??   What fires it?

You could make one Glenn , no doubt!! c*
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

glenn kangiser

That is why I would make my own Ben.

PEG, this is an actual explosion of propane and oxygen.  Think of having a torch lit - putting it out, pumping the gas-oxygen mix into the hole then lighting it.

I think these just have a peizzo-electric starter attached.  Like lighting a cook stove. I saw somewhere about 45 seconds of gas then light it.   Boom...yay. :)

After seeing the vegetables making music video I must feel sorry for them too..... [waiting]

A buddy of mine had a couple pastures done by a company with that device.  The gophers came right back only deaf this time so he claimed.  Was not worth the $$$.  If you made your own and just stuck with it, it might have a good results  But he said it was sure fun to watch.

Something told me to check in on you ???
Not a good thing to be useing if you live underground [slap]
But if you don't want to take my advise, and you still want to build one, I would love to be on the next hill over and watch when you set it off   heh

I thought they were deaf and blind.  ???

glenn kangiser

Hmm... a guy just can't win.... [waiting]

I'm not so sure about that, Ben.  Seems the ones we have do have beady little eyes.

Went to the graduation of our Humphrey Fellowship International friends Sunday at UC Davis......  They get their diplomas signed by BO and Hillary.  How cool is that?...... if you are into that sort of thing. :)

So... To do that I took Sassy and I up there then returned to Mariposa then changed trucks and went to work at Walnut Creek last night.  Appx 450 miles of driving yesterday.  [ouch]

....a rather long day....

Digging my ditch through the next section of the Underground Complex.  Got to a point where I need a nuclear tunnel boring machine... but it is just me and my trusty little jack hammer...... [waiting]

No wonder this is taking me forever.... [noidea'

Some of the rocks are over a foot across....well... some of them are much bigger than that but we are not messing with them.  [ouch]

Makes me think there was a reason for not going deeper on top of this greenstone dike.

I'm about 12 1/2 inches to the bottom of the first pipe.  Eight more feet and trying to maintain 1/4 inch per foot slope for good drainage.

Likely 10 years ago I decided it wasn't worth continuing trying to get through it.  [frus]

Well, the ditch is filled the pipe is in to grade to a point just under the front edge of the threshold of the door.  Had to stop short there and fill the trench as I don't want to lose Mtn. Don and Wife in it when they show up here next week.  :)

He is coming out here to see how we will all have to live after the holocaust.... [waiting]

Got the piers in and first coat of concrete on the jute netting tonight so it will be ready for a color coat maybe Saturday.  Don't think I will have energy by tomorrow night as I am headed to the valley again to retrieve another trailer load of unnatural resources.  Saturday we have a possible student visit but if they don't show then I might get it done..... Sassy

Actually the students won't be coming until next Saturday (6/2) & that is tentative.  Had to clarify that w/Glenn as we aren't ready yet  :o  The dust is in every nook & cranny.  Had discussed putting up plastic to keep everything from being covered...  but alas, I will be vacuuming for months now  [frus]  It will be really nice to have this part of the floor fixed at least - will seem like quite a luxury when everything is back in place & cleaned up...

Isn't there a story about a couple who lived in a tent & the wife was complaining that it was too small so they kept putting larger & larger animals inside, up to an elephant or maybe a cow  ???  Can't remember now  d*  Anyway, after the animals were taken out, the tent seemed so spacious.  :D

glenn kangiser

I think that was about the Arab who had a camel who wanted to stick his nose in the tent to warm it because he was cold... a little more - a little more - the camel was in and the Arab was out..... [waiting]

Long story short version.  I'm off for more unnatural resources.  :)

Sassy asked me if I wanted a couple things for breakfast.... I suggested an alternate.... [waiting]

I wanted German Potatoes again.  It's a lot of work for her but, boy is it good.

I went out and got a few heirloom carrots, even though they were a bit small...

and a couple of fresh onions for her to add into the pan...

The garden is doing pretty good on it's own right now.  The lower level is on drip.  I am just getting ready to start restoring the drip on the upper terraces by the Underground Complex.  Timer went bad over the winter - changing to drip tape.  Lots of things to fix on it after I get the floor done.  [frus]

Working on the front section today.  A lot of work but a great improvement.  :)

Got the other section of floor finished last night.  Wonder why I feel beat up worse every time I do this.....  [noidea'

Probably just so I know I'm still alive.  [waiting]

Well, off to the next major problem at hand. Looks like it needs a bit of cleanup..... :)

Picked a few Strawberries off of the garage roof yesterday...  [hungry]

and some Beets from the lower garden.  The big one is about a pound I think.  See the quarter next to it for size.

Now off to see what else I can get done around here. :)

Your produce belongs on seed catalog covers... We're planning on getting ripe strawberries within the next week, which isn't bad for the arctic. ;)
