At the request of my 10 year old daughter we hit the bicycles today.  It is true that once you learn you never forget. Well at least my posterior remembers it this evening.  It has been 8 years since I had ridden any measurable distance.  The last ride was when she was 2 years old and I towed a caboose with her delightful smile taking in the sights from Cass to Marlinton some 24 miles.  Well today she did it on her own.  The ride was on the Greenbrier River Trail (http://www.pocahontascountywv.com/greenbrier_river_trail.aspx  )a well know bike trail that stretches 80 miles from Cass to Ronceverte,WV.  It was originally the C&O railroad line and was given to the State of West Virginia.  It traverses through the mountains and valleys along side the Greenbrier River.  After a round trip of 12 miles it was snack time and the trip would not be complete without a stop of Dairy Queen.  Have to get those calories I lost back in my system. ;)

A restored water tank just north of Marlinton

A rest stop for my wife and daughter at one of the original creek crossing bridges before the trip back.

Great ride in lovely environment.

Can you turn on that big faucet for a little shower? hmm
None of us are as smart as all of us.

No John it hasn't worked in years.  Was a necessity in the 1900's when the steam engines hauled the logs from the mountains to town.   With the deisel locomotives it wasn't a necessity anymore and has been standing empty rotting down until it was restored.  Didn't really need one today anyway as the temps were in the  mid 70's.  In fact fall is upon us here as the days are growing shorter and the temperatures continue to fall with each day. Love the fall weather it is probably my favorite time of the year.

Aren't "Rails to Trails" bike paths the greatest government project in a long time??

We have several near me in Florida. Government isn't always part of the problem!!
