some of my post brackets i put in concrete are a little un-level, what would be a good way to fill the gap or shim them so there will be no gap from my 6x6 to the base?

I'd use some galvanized flat washers or cedar shims.

Thank you ScottA, so just level the post verticaly and fill the gaps?

Cedar is not up to the task, hardwood or steel, hardwood will rot. I'd cut the post to the shape needed. A short chunk of scrap post and a torpedo level should make it easy to map what you need on the real post.

Just in case you're using that string line for grade you will be a little off. A dry line sags a 1/8" in 20'  And a wet string around  a 1/4"
Home is where you make it

I just used cedar shims to fill the gaps--------time will tell, but I think there is enough settling here and there that it won't make that much of a difference in grand scheme of things.

I've used plastic shims.  I love them.  They are the ones my curtainwall subcontractors use to install large aluminum framed windows.  They gave me a whole bag of various thickness flat ones and wedge shaped ones.  They are even colour coded.  Sorry, I don't know where to buy them.

is there any type of liquid shim for this application?
