My son harvested his first deer yesterday, it was 192 lbs. and had 11 points.

The harvest here in Maine is way down, due to the last 2 winters excess snowfall. But the coyotes are thriving! We hear them howl at night when at camp, and it echo's through the valley. Very creepy......

congratulations to your son, thats a nice first deer.

I leave out either tonight or early in the morning for a hunting trip as well.  buddy says the rut is underway as of earlier this week.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Nice one.  The ones on my mountain are only around 75 to 100 lbs, but there are bigger ones in other areas.  Different breed I think.

Not his first but the biggest to date.  Steven got this on the opening day.  He was a little disappointed as it was about 125 yards and was standing sideways.  He saw the nice rack on that side. Turned out that the side he was looking at was 5 points and the other side was 3 points.  But hey it still adds up to eight.  ;)  He went to my BIL along the Ohio River this year.  Thought he could get a bigger rack.  Funny thing was that when his mother left for work here on that same morning there was about a 8-10 pt standing in the field in front of the house.   And Yes Glenn that is a Dodge.  Not real sure it will pull all that weight but they don't have far to go. ;D

I have a different deer hunting success story to report this year.  My wife came with me, her first time to go deer hunting.  She seemed to enjoy it alright, I'm hoping we can make this a more common thing.  She didn't make too many morning hunts - but to be fair, it was very cold, and very early - and raining off and on as well.  Even still, I was happy to have her there to watch animals and enjoy a few days away.

I'm getting her some camo for christmas, she wore this pink sweater the first day.
