That I had in the garage.  Had a bunch of old crap from the 1980's that I must have stashed away.  Beer bar coasters, a few poker chips, some pictures, concert ticket stubs, that sort of thing.  Reminded me of being a bachelor.

My first apartment in Houston just off of Westheimer and the beltway cost me all of $300 a month, including utilities.  I slept on the floor since I had no furniture.  Everything I had fit in my 1980 Grand Prix.

I kept every dish I owned in the dish washer.  Needed one?  Pulled it out of the dishwasher and used it.  Put it back in the dishwasher when done, and at the end of the day washed every dish I had.  Let me tell you what... the dishes in the back were squeaky clean.

Usually ate chips and salsa for breakfast, grabbed a banana for the road (it is important to eat right).

Typical after work special was something like this:

Monday night: Sports bar night
Tuesday night : Ladies night and live music at Club Hey-Hey
Wednesday night : Softball or Volleyball league (important to get regular exercise)
Thursday night : Ladies night at the Ocean Club
Friday night : boot scooting at the Wild West on Gessner
Saturday : Galveston
Sunday : Get to bed by 10pm (important to get good rest you know)

Gotta go mow the lawn now.  Sigh......

Old car, no furniture, cheap rent, no serious girlfriend, light drinker.  Eat at happy hour.  New college grad, beginning engineering salary was ok.  Lots of student loans too.  I think I spent more money on gas than anything else.

I still remember when I splurged and bought an air mattress to sleep on.  I was so excited I went to bed early.

Me too, but I'm saving for a memory foam mattress.  Then again, I've been sleeping on a queen-size air mattress for a few years now.  Maybe I should check the couch cushions for my mattress fund.

Aah, the joys of going back to college.   :P

rofl   That reminds me of the time we flew into Bishop, on the other side of Mt Whitney...  Glenn didn't want to spend the money on a motel, so we ended up sleeping under the wing of the plane at the airport.  A lot of the little airports had donated "airport" cars...  this one had seen better days, but it did get us around town a little faster than walking & it was free.  We hooked up the air compressor to the cigarette lighter to blow up the Coleman air mattress...  well, a couple hours into the night, it was flat  >:(  mind you, this was a NEW air mattress.  So Glenn started up the little car & compressor to blow up the air mattress.  I layed there laughing - he ended up doing that several times during the night.

At one point, it wasn't the air mattress that woke us up - it was the flashing red lights, the spot lights & the mooing & bellowing of cows.  Seems a whole herd of cows got out of the fence & were on the hwy next to the airport - the police cars & whatever else were out there in force trying the herd the cows back to where they belonged...  we didn't get much sleep that night & don't buy those Coleman mattresses - we bought 2 & they both would go flat during the night.

Before I moved out west, while going through stuff in my closet I found an old box too.

Mostly just old film, some Zig Zag papers, a couple plastic trinkets and Swizzle Sticks from this horrible plastic modling factory I used to work at, some random change, a pen, etc.

The thing is, there were multiple shoe boxes of just random stuff that was more or less the same. Old check stubs, paper work, pens and pencils, random change, etc.

Some folks create these old boxes on purpose and call them time capsules.  We did one for one of our kids.  It is going to be especially poignant for her to open this.  One of her favorite teachers wrote her a note to insert into that box; we don't know what it says.  That teacher was unfortunately killed in a car crash a few years ago on an icy Alaska road.

I just am a collector of junk and trinkets.  Boxes of weird stuff happens naturally for me.
