Pier footings in relatively shallow soils

We need to build our cabin on the highest ground we can find to avoid possibility of flooding.  Unfortunately, the soil is somewhat shallow and might even be less than the 24" recommended for frost line in some areas where we would like to build.

I believe Limestone is what lies beneath the soil.  If it is relatively flat, is it okay to put the footers directly on top of the limestone?

I don't think you could find much better to sit your footings on.  If you hit solid rock a couple re-bar pins drilled would keep it steady from any lateral movement.

I agree. If the rock is solid and stable you may be able to call it your footing and pin it directly into the foundation wall or pier that the footing would support.
