well, the pump seems to work, the Challenger diaphram tank has water in it.  also has air in it.
several questions - how do we get the air out of the system?  Is this normal for a new system?
How do we adjust the water pressure, or is it probably preset from the factory?  it is a "Pumptrol" switch, I haven't found a web site for Pumptrol.
The well & pump & tank were installed over 2 years ago.  Do you think that we might have problems because it has been so long?  the tank is in its own little 4 x 4 house, we have recently finished running white plastic water pipe from tank to house.  Want to get all systems working before we bury the pipe
There's a faucet at the bottom of the tank (for draining it), another that my husband installed just outside the pump house (for getting water to the eventual stock), & another at the house.  we have not yet run water up to the house. Have opened the faucet at the bottom of the tank to see that we do have water (yay!) but the water came out frothy, like it has air in it.
You might suggest that we ask the guy that installed the pump & tank, but he wants $50 to $100 to drive out (less than 2 miles for him) & have a look before he answers any questions.  He is the one who said that he has to set the tank pressure.  But it seems like something an owner-builder should be able to do.
Any help, any links, much appreciated.
you can't have everything without having too much of something.

Just hook it up and run it a bit to see if the water clears up. Not much to these systems really. As for the pressure switch it should have been preset from the factory. They can be adjusted by tightening or lossening the tention on the spring. It's not real accurate so you'll need to play around with it a bit. Pressure from a well is not constant. It will start high then drop slowly till the pump kicks on. The pump delivery rate/pipe size/distance from the well etc. will determine how much water you get and at what pressure.

The tank are pressurized at the factory. On the inside cover of your pressure switch there will be the factory preset . Most are 30 psi to turn on and 50 psi to turn off. The preesure on the top half of the diaphram should be 3 lbs. less than the turn on pressure. Just use a tire  pressure gauge to set to correct pressure. You'll probably have to let a bunch of air out of the valve on top. Alot of people turn the large screw on the switch and set the pressure at 60 psi.
I would suggest a pop off valve be put on to protect from having the tank explode if the switch sticks !! Also I would put a check valve somewhere between the line coming out of the well and the tank itself. This will prevent a back flow back into the well.
Did the driller put a weep hole below frost line to let water drain out so it would not freeze? Mine did and we had to lift the tubing out and plug it or it would have put a bunch of air in the tank everytime the pump starts
Good Luck
