Now her is something news worthy.  This weekend is the 17th annual Roadkill Cookoff in conjunction with the 22nd Annual Harvest Festival.  Never heard of it.  Well it was on the Food network, Discovery Channel and Travel Channel.

Several years ago, when the state of West Virginia made it legal to take home - and use - animals killed by cars, the Roadkill Cookoff in Marlinton was born. Dishes with names like Thumper Meets Bumper, Asleep at the Wheel Squeal, One Ton Wonton, Rigormortis Bear Stew, Tire Tread Tortillas and Deer on a Stick are judged for their taste - or lack of it. Citizens of the state have been picking up, and cooking, roadkill long before they named a festival in honor of the practice.

And to top it all off you would get to hear my son play the banjo for all the out of staters who haven't the foggist what Old Tyme Music is.

Here is some of the menu

"Buzzard Breath Maggotini,"
"Turtle A1-A Road Soup,"
"The Buck Stopped Here Pepper Steak."
"Deer Drop Chilli"
"Buffalo Balls"
chipmunk pot pie

Now tell me who wouldn't want to be here.

That sounds like an interesting and fun use for dead animals.

Are you going to be there with any unfortunate creatures, John?

No I already have mine in the freezer.  I really enjoy just going to watch and meet the people.  Intresting just to see the diversity of people and where they actually travel from to see some dead animals.  ;D.

Since it is the 17th year I went back and googled and found most of the comments from the previous years.  I thought that Muldoon might find some really good recipes for various things.

I found that very few locals participate as it has grown in popularity and the cost of the prepartion is too high for no more than the prize money is.

Still alot of fun

There is a restaurant in Seligman, AZ called the Roadkill Cafe. The menu is populated with names similar to those you listed above. I haven't been in there for a while so I don't remember them all. Seligman is located on Old Route 66 and attracts a lot of bike and antique car club events. People seem to remember the Road Kill so it works for them.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.
