If they cut prices on stuff I want the glass is half full.

For now at least.

Just what I needed to hear. I hope this spreads to groceries.  ;D

Good news. So what if it hurts their profits.  They have been hurthing mine for years.  Maybe the CEO will get less of a bonus this year.  Overpaid like every CEO anyway.  But with the mentality of corporate buisness the CEO will remain to get paid the big bucks and will downsize to layoff employees.  Doesn't anyone else see that their is something wrong with this picture. I forgot until today -- last time I went to HD, the parking lot was nearly empty.  I was thinking then they had problems.

???  They don't seem to be empty around here. Nor Lowe's.

hmm  - maybe I hit a bad day, but they used to be full almost all of the time.

I believe they are least busy in mid morning around here. I don't like to even think of going near one on the weekend though.

I had to go to HD yesterday and it was empty. Lowes, on the other hand, was rolling. A lot of that is that the HD here is such a dump and the Lowes is new, with good employees.

New house construction here...is all but dead. A lot of do it yourself remodeling is going on though.
These here is God's finest scupturings! And there ain't no laws for the brave ones! And there ain't no asylums for the crazy ones! And there ain't no churches, except for this right here!

One difference between Lowe's and HD that I have noticed here is that the Lowe's seem to be cleaner, brighter. Lowe's is also cooled with refrigerated air, HD is not. I've grown to like Lowe's better for browsing in the hot summers.

One of out 2 HD's (older one) has been "sprucing up" though with cleaning and polishing the bare concrete floors.

On many items they have identical prices, on appliances Lowe's is always 0.01 less on identical items.

With a Lowe's and one of the HD virtually the same distance from home (about a half mile apart) for me where I go is usually decided by some combination of product/brand selection, product availability, quality, and price, not necessarily in that order.

On some items HD has much better prices; Quikrete for example, 80#, HD 3.85, Lowes 4.08. So why would I buy it at Lowe's.

I also use their websites to preview the pricing and possible availability.

The main reason I like lowes better is quality and service. I've found that lowes carries better quality lumber and their staff is more helpful. If I go to HD I can count on a long wait for any kind of help.

muldoon

they are not empty here.

of course this city has 4 million people in need of tarps, plastic sheeting, chainaws, chains, bar oil, contractor trash bags, generators, rakes/brooms, shingles, plywood, and assorted tools to make emergency repairs.

They are PACKED here this week.

I just came from the HD here. They were busy. Every time I have ever compared prices between the two HD cam out with the lowest prices at least for the things I was after. Lowes does have the nicer and newer store.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

Our city just had it's HD shut down last year.  We have Menard's (HGT would know what I'm talking about, being from Wisconsin), and a few Lowe's infiltrating in.  Was severely miffed by HD the last time I went.  I was in to but a couple of pond plants (in THEIR GARDEN CENTER) and was accousted by a couple of THEIR kitchen cabinet salesmen.  As someone somewhat experienced in building and materials, I know what I want and how to install it.

Needless to say, it is the last time I shopped at HD, despite the price breaks they may have.

I'm surprised you could even find any help there, let alone get accosted [crz]

Glenn,

I didn't find them...they found me.  I felt like I was in a used car lot! >:(

I hate it when that happens.  Probably a tag team from some splinter religious group working window sales in HD to support their evangelizing.

Wonder if I stirred up anything with that one.  hmm   rofl
