Well I've been having fun today dealing with Homeland Security the document balck hole of the universe. Back in April we applied to get my wife a new Permanent resident card since the old one was expiring. Well here we are in September and still no card. Her old one is long since expired. I called them to find out what the deal is and they basicly told me that they'll process the card when they get around to it 6-15 months was the estimate. Now I want to know what idiot decided that it should take that long to issue new cards?

Anyway I complained then started looking for loopholes. After naviagting a maze of voice options that went on for half an hour I managed to get a real live person on the phone. Heavy spanish accent and all he filed to have her card expidited. Now I'm sure the HS version of expidited means we should see this card in 2-3 years if we are lucky. Meanwhile we try to convince google she really is legal to work in the U.S. even though her card is expired.

God bless G.W. and the Homeland Security black hole.

Homeland Security is run by Michael Chertoff (translates  "Son of the Devil")--- an Israeli/American dual citizen with allegiance to ?....

What seems to be the problem here? hmm

Maybe they outsourced the card department to Israel?  d*

That's possible, but the printing is on back order from China and there is a glitch in the computer software in India so they haven't been sent to the printer yet.

A technician from Indonesia is currently tied up at the TSA scanner in Boston as the security gal running the clothes removal scanner thinks he's cute.  Soon as she's done he'll be on his way to get things rolling.

Did she initially work here on an H1B1? Google has a good legal department I am wondering why they are not helping out.
They do many of these.

ScottA

No she currently works for a canadian company but google offered her a job last week. They are being very careful with her documentation though. I guess they've gotten some heat in the past. Technicaly her status is unchanged even without the card but try getting someone to belive that.

Well if they offered her a job their legal department should take care of it, thats one of the reasons companies like, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft.....have legal departments. Because they can not hire people here in the US with the same quality education they can get from outside the US.

Stink, I'm educated here -- Oh yeah -- that's right--they can't afford me. d* heh

I say this with love, but when it comes down to it, the big companies import (legally) well educated people at great expense, because they can not find qualified people here.

This is the age of electronics. Point and click, fax and scan and all of that. Why does government not get it. The private sector does it all day everyday.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.
