Well it started at 5:00 AM.  After getting my son up it was time to wake up the pigs.  After about 30 minutes of coaking his pig into the trailer we were off to the 4H livestock show/sale.  We were detoured to help some other 4H children who needed to haul theirs to the sale as well.  After picking up three more with the trailer we had arrived only to find out the dreaded information that we sort of already knew.  My son's pig had not made the minimun weight.  Therefore he could not show in the Grand Champion exhibition.  But all clouds have a silver lining.  He picked up the Best Showmanship award in market hog exhibition out of about 25 exhibitors.

With the financial situation the way it is the buyers (Local Buisness People) were tightening their belts as well and the prices normally paid were not.  I guess he might have made $75-$100 after expences were taken out.  If you took out for the time & effort of daily feeding he was in the hole but emotionally he was on top.  I think he really learned alot from his experience that he may later apply in life.  He growing so fast into manhood but deep inside he is still a child.  That was obvious upon his face as he said good bye to his daily companion for the last 4 months.

He is the boy in the green striped short

Red, that's a handsome young man you've got there.  Bet you're proud of him.

Being a small town a boy's reputation is quick to get around.  Yesterday I kept getting comments on how mature and polite he is.  I all too often take it for granite because I am around him all the time.  Well I guess I might be doing or had done something right along the way. In all honestity I  have to give alot of the credit to the enviroment.  Living out of town on the farm has really paid off. His intrest are completely different than kids growing up in the cities.  So if you get a chance buy that little chunk of rural life to raise your family. Get them involved in 4H and livestock (how ever so small). You won't be sorry.

Your right John! A rural environment does make a lot of difference...but there are other things as well.

The parents make up more of the child's personality than anything else.

I'm not sure I ever met a kid that was born bad, but I sure have met a lot that behaved like their parents who were A$$es.

Thankfully my kids took most of their Q's from their mother :)

Sounds like you did a good job raising him, John.

I have a saying from my experience.  "If parents want their children to respect them, then the parents need to earn that respect from their children."

unless we recognize who's really in charge, things aren't going to get better.

Sassy

Is he having a hard time keeping the girls away?  Good looking, able to play musical instruments, goal oriented...

Lets put it this was Sassy.  He is doing better than his ole man did at that age. I told him before if playing music was that much of a magnet then I would have taken it up.  But with my musical skills it would have probably worked like a repellent instead.

rofl  Well, Red, tell him not to let it go to his head!
