Sassy came up for the weekend as I am still stuck here in welder hell.... so we went to the Exploratorium.

I made a little slide show of a few sights around the area.

Click the pix to have a look.

I saw that years ago when driving around sf -- didn't know what it was

thanks for the tour

Thanks, Windpower.

Glad you enjoyed it.  I went there about 20 years ago.

In 1915 Ford Motor company had a complete auto assembly line operating in one of the displays there at the fair.  They completed one auto every 10 minutes and all were sold by the end of the show.  [ouch]

This was right after the Dodge Brothers were dropped from manufacturing all of the parts for the Ford and they set off to make a much improved car with the first one coming out in November 1914.

A bit of history on that here.  Ford was stubborn and would not take their suggested improvements.

I have a 1919 and 1926 Dodge.  They are mostly steel rather than tin and wood so stayed together much better than the Fords.

That's such a cool place to visit.I hope to go there one day.

glenn kangiser

How about another few shots of the place with some video's to check out, Ben.  Took a little time and put a few more of them together. :)

I had a problem viewing it if I did not let it run through one time before viewing the videos on the next time through.  Maybe just me..... [ouch]

That is awesome!I really dig those old engines.

Sassy

We had fun trying all the different exhibits.  I found out the my reflexes are faster than Glenn's  :-* on one of the exhibits that test your reflexes.  I have to brag about something  ::)

The Palace of Fine Arts is really beautiful.  We walked around 1/2 way & Glenn said lets go back to the Exploratorium.  I told him I wanted to walk all around the pond & through the pilars - that it would probably be the only time I'd get a chance to walk through something like that as I doubt if we'll make it to Greece or Rome...

We also ate at the Crepe Factory 4x's - 2 brunches & 2 dinners...  we thought of going other places but the food is so good there & reasonable that we always ended up there - I'm not complaining  :) [hungry]

Probably about as good as you can do when you are stuck in the city, Ben..

I keep my diesel tank full on my truck in case the world ends while I'm here and I need to make a quick escape back to the mountain..... like... I'd be able to get through the carnage between here and home...

I did watch "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Mad Max" you know.... I know whats up....   [waiting]

I think Glenn would probably make it out of the city - he'd be causing the carnage  [crz]  He is developing road rage...  we were driving along & this BMW behind us laid on his horn because Glenn was looking at his directions & didn't immediately take off...  he said a few choice words & grumbled that he should have slammed on his brakes & let the BM'r ram into us, then he'd jump out of the car, tear off his windshield wipers & when the guy tried to jump out of his car, Glenn would kick the door shut on his legs  d*  denting the door at the same time...

People are really rude there... they are always honking their horns.  I thought it was bad in Fresno - there's a lot of stupid drivers there.  I'd probably be just as bad if I lived in the cities - I'd be yelling "stupid, dumb driver" like I do already.   ::)

I find the best way to deal with rude drivers is to slap on your biggest cheesy grin and wave at them mouthing "thank you" as you pull away - its guaranteed to really pop their veins. :)

(Heh heh heh ... Canadians and Brits have mastered being so polite it's rude ;) )

glenn kangiser

Maybe a variation of that could work for me, Al......  [waiting]

I'll try to remember to start laughing and point at them... :)

I Bless them  ;D
May God give you 3 flats, no spare, dead cell phone, in a pouring rain with lots of lightning, 6 miles from the nearest phone with a snapping dog at your back end.....All while smiling  c*

glenn kangiser

There you go, TT.

I saw another one do it to someone else today as I was going to pick up parts.  The .... "people".....  choose to live together in this hell hole of a city and snarl, honk and hate each other. [noidea'

No wonder I choose to live in the country away from them all...... when I'm not having to come down here and plunder and pillage for money.....

I feel so soiled...... [waiting]

Glenn you know it's not really their fault.  It's due to the discomfort of their mental state....

Sadly it's true, there are a lot of bad drivers in the city and everyone is in a hurry. For the most part I try and take public transportation to avoid the headaches.

I think the last time I was at the Palace of Fine Arts/Exploratorium was when they were filming "The Rock." I really should make my way over there one of these days.

ben2go

LOL.I was gone a full day and a half and in my absence, the comics have come out.We have really dumb driver here, especially in the areas where they are doing road construction. One interstate and two main highways right here at my house are under reconstruction. One is being rebuilt and widened. The other two are being repaved while one gets bike lanes that will go unused.I am surprised that the DOT crews don't loose a few men each day from dumb dumbs. They must have good reflexes and be light on their feet.

glenn kangiser

Better hurry, Paul.  I saw a notice that it was moving to a couple of the piers around the corner.  That part of town is too busy for me....

I guess that fine palace will go empty then.

Sometimes I just want to slap 'em,  Ben...... [waiting]

I enjoy talking to the people much of the time on an individual basis, but as a herd, I tend to highly dislike them..... [noidea'

I'm continually astonished by the antics of people when driving, like the piloting of a vehicle is just an adjunct to support their main focus; kids, cell phone, conversation, scenery, make up, anything but staying safe while on the road.  All those kids with diagnosed ADD are now coming of driving age....one more excuse.

I just imagine that every other driver is not paying attention, they don't see me unless they are trying to examine the inside of my tailpipe, and that if there is a sudden and difficult situation, it will be up to me to get through it safely.  Even then there is no guarantee.   [scared]

They have cars out there on the Oly peninsular???  ;)  Or are you talking about the horse drawn wagon crowd!
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

Sassy

So PEG, do you have a horse & buggy or one of those open things they used to pack the whole family on & all their earthly belongings?  rofl

Just finished watering.  Am gong to have to set the timer for another well pumping I guess.  Was afraid the strawberry patch down below on one of the terraces would be dead, but finally got the young guy Glenn has been helping w/the underground house over to finish up some of the weedeating.  The grass was so high that I couldn't see my way down to the path - knowing me, I'd fall over the edge & be lying there for days with the dogs licking my face until Glenn started wondering why I wasn't Skyping him  ::)

The hugelkulture bed is still doing really good.  I've watered it a little maybe 3x's this summer.  Noticed a potato on the side of the HK bed w/an almost dried up plant, dug around a bit & got a couple potatoes, so watered it, hopefully it will come back to life.  There are other healthy looking potato plants, beans & Jerusalem artichokes.

Been picking plums & peaches - they sure are sweet.  Only the pluot part of my plum tree has been effected so far w/the peach borer (I guess that's what must be causing the pluots to look like light colored prunes).  Still getting a few strawberries.  Lots of Swiss chard reseeded itself & now I have several plants of that.  Also have several volunteer squashes - picked a yellow crookneck today.  Everything has been pretty slow in starting.  The pepper plants are starting to put on a few peppers.

Got the uphill patio cob stairs coated w/linseed oil late yesterday afternoon.

The cows & chickens are doing good.  The cows let me know to feed them everyday.  They've just been coming up from the spring in the last week.  Bossy looks like she'll be having a little calf in the next month  :)

Poor Glenn, he's missing out on all the fun  :(

Speaking of crazy drivers...

I heard that the GC cleanup guys borrowed it and broke it........(The steering cylinder on the front one)...

I watched this guy trying to get this forklift loaded onto the lowboy for about 10 minutes until I figured he may tip it over then I walked up to him and told him to get out of the lift and let me do it..... He was driving me crazy... [crz]

I adjusted the frame tilt hydraulics so it might not tip over then fought it to get the forklift with the broken steering up onto the lowboy.  A fun 20 minutes or so.  The foreman and truck driver thanked me.  :)

I hate standing around watching someone who is not doing something good when I know I can do it better..... [waiting]

Besides, I was waiting on him to move so I could get out to get some bolts and he had the only driveway blocked completely.  [ouch]

And the fun continues as the company continues to have me help the erector get his steel up on this nightmare job....

Our guys got this stair up to the parking level last night.
