Anyone thought of using RainX on a solar panel?

MountainDon

Nope. And I don't think I will. I give them a shot of water once in a while after rainy season is over. I use a water filled, air pressurized fire extinguisher.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

So far I've not had much issue with keeping the panels cleaned off -- they do it themselves for the most part -- but I've used RainX on car windshields for years (awesome stuff) and just thought it might be good to help keep water moving off the panels in the rain etc...maybe even snow in the winter

Probably one of those "can't hurt" things, but I don't think I'll do more than I do at present.  :)

Being dependent on just one high amp panel, I'm always surprised how the smallest bit of grime affects output. If there are fires around, I need to clean it weekly.  Not so many fires this year where I am, so not so much cleaning this year.

Rainx actually recommends against using its product on solar panels(see their online Q&A section). Don't know why but there you go straight from the horses mouth.

I just hose my panels down with plain water maybe once per season , rain usually cleans them fine

Thanks -- saw this, checked myself (because I always do) and you are correct!  Wonder why though??
