I'm doing lap siding with corner trim boards.  The house will have a full length 8 ft wide porch/deck the full length of the front of the house.  When attaching my trim boards do I put them on both sides of the corner and start the ledger board next to the front side corner trim.  That would make the front deck the full length of the front minus the width of the trim.  Is that the correct way to do it?

Others may have a different opinion but if it were mine I would stop my trim at the top of my finished flooring (deck) on the front and allow the sides trim boards to cover the end of the ledger.  If you installed the ledger up to the trim board then your would have to make the flooring to fit around the trim board on the ends.  I assume you will have joist coming 90 deg off the house to the 8' width (minus the decking overhang). I would use ice/water guard membrane behind the siding and ledger then use a flashing behind the siding to direct the water onto the deck surface away from the ledger and house.  Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks.
So I guess there is no set rule about wrapping the corner trim around the front side or not.  I have tried to find some example pics of that detail on the net but have not been successful yet.  You can usually find Google images of just about anything.  There is a 6 x 6 post approx 8 ft out front and I haven't checked but I assume the outside of that post is even with the outside of the house.

I would probably offset the post some 3" .   1-1/2" for the rim joist of the deck and another 1 to 1-1/2" to allow for the overhang of the decking material. But if you notch out for  the rim joist of the deck into the porch support post then you only need the deck overhang distance.  If you are attaching railings to the end you might consider those demensions as well.   Generally neither the roof overhang or deck protrude past the corner of the house.  In addition I might add that if you are using 8' length decking material perpendicular to the house that the support post on the outside be set in some so that the decking material will overlap the outside rim joist and still allow an overhang of the decking material.  Just a few things to consider.
