Strange Things In The Gutter

Well, it's that time of year again. The surrounding trees have shed most their foilage and inevitably a bunch of it ends up in my gutter......yep, that's right.......gutter. I only have one. My house has a flat raked roof; therefore, gutter. About fifty feet long.....a drain on each end. Got the picture?

Most of the stuff up there (and in my lawn) comes from the neighbors trees. Why don't they clean it up?

The task of cleaning the gutter is fairly simple...... a ladder, the garden hose, and a pair of hand shoes are all that's required.  Oh, yeah, and the willingness to do it....almost forgot.

This year wasn't a whole lot different than others. The usual stuff.....leaves, sticks, twigs, pine needles, mud. Stuff that used to belong to my neighbors.

However, there were two notable exceptions. Things just not normally found in any drainage system. Let alone at the edge of a roof.

About half way through the processs of ridding the gutter of its cloggage (is that a real word?), I spotted a small, round object. It was quite dirty, but recognisable.

A ping-pong ball. Uh huh. A p-p ball. Kinda piqued my curiosity.......how did it get there?

I don't own a ping-pong table. Neither do the neighbors. I don't have any reason to keep ping-pong balls around the house or any where else.

So, how did it get there?.....mysterious.......

But that really didn't prepare me for the next gutter cleaning experience of my life.

Lying in the bottom of the gutter, partially covered in mud and a bunch of my neighbors stuff was.......a fork.

That's right.....a fork!  Common old every day hold in yer hand and use it to eat with.........fork.

A discovery such as this can set one's mind reeling. Well, my mind reels rather easily at times.

Had someone been up on my roof eating green beans and inadvertently left it there? Surely there would be evidence to support this.....but I couldn't find any green beans. Maybe it was mashed potatoes. The rain would have washed away any scene of the crime.

And the fork didn't match any of the silverware in the kitchen. Not my fork. Or my wife's. And it left the neighbors scratching their heads.

Maybe someone was trying to send me some sort subliminal message.....you get the drift.

And where in the heck did all that mud come from  ???

Sounds like you have a crafty crow or raven.  They are famous for stealing objects.  Let me know if you find any coins and I will come clean it out the next time. They love the shinny ones.   ;D

Any "party houses" in the neighborhood? The ping pong ball could have escaped from a game of "beer pong."

No idea about the fork.

My wife's grandchildren seem to

have a handle on this.

No beer pong

Or fork pong

Just kids being kids

Still haven't figured out where they got the fork

Crows were the first thing that popped in to my head.  There is a whole litany of things written about them and their pranks and packing stuff off.  From stealing fish when ice fishermen do not notice a pop up a crow will.  They have been seen flying over, landing pulling the line up and taking the fish that to silverware off picnic tables.  They are incredible!
