Velux sky lights and snow?

In the UK I have multiple velux's installed in the roof to get light into the old house

In the cabin design I have done the main bed seems to be lacking in windows - but with 4ft pony walls
I only have one wall to fit in windows....presently 2 off 36 x 60's

One pony wall side will have a bathroom which presently won't have any windows unless its a small one tucked under the eaves

So anyone have experience with Velux in a high snow load area on a 8in 12 roof pitch ?

I battled leaking Velux skylights for 20 years

I would not recomend them to my worst enemy

I replaced one with a cheap no-name Menards skylight -- never leaked once --- even when the raccoons used it for a slide and cracked the outer pane

Thats odd, I have 3 on the UK house and never had an issue and its in the damp southwest of england.

was installed with the velux flashing kit ? or just flashed by the builder

Mind you mine have only been in about 12 years so they are a version 8 years more advanced than your leaky ones !

Can't vouche for Velux but I can for Pella.  I installed 2-2247's (24X48) in a shingled roof with a 5:12 roof in 2003 and they have worked great (knock on wood) .  I used the factory flash kit provided.  They have about a 6" curbing detail and are non-opening.  I have had as much a 30" of snow laying on them for a month at a time with no problem.  The majority of the winters since their installation there has always been snow on them for weeks/month at a time.

We have a couple Velux. Not much snow or rain, but when it does rain we remain dry inside.  Complete with the trim and flashing from Velux for metal roof
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

My only leaking velux been on a standing seam metal roof where the roofers made the flashing out of their metal. One out of 8 on that roof that has leaked with snow on it. We have 8 for the current roof including 2 operators, I noticed the flash kit is different than the last ones I installed. These will be in shingles where I've never had a problem.
